Chapter One

“Julia! Come on honey! We have to go!” Her mother called.

“Mommy, I don’t want to go to Nicky’s house. He’s boring,” Julia whined slowly walking down the stairs.

“Oh come on honey. Nick is a nice boy,” her mother said.

“Yeah right,” Julia sighed. The mother and daughter stepped out into the summer sun. Julia was a 9-year-old girl with dark blonde hair, blue eyes, thin, and she was 4’8”. Her mother, Jackie, was a widow. Her husband, John, died of cancer when Julia was 3 years old. Bryan, Julia’s brother, was now 12 years old. The little family lived in a big house and Tampa, Florida. All of the houses on that street were big and beautiful. They had a light tan color to them and some had red brick type roofs.

“Julia, we’re here! Smile honey!” Jackie said to Julia.

“But mommy, I don’t want to be here!” Julia whined.

“Well, I’m sorry honey. You’re going to be here today, tomorrow and Sunday,” Jackie said. Julia frowned as they walked on the brick pathway to the Carter home. "Smile honey, try to be happy,” Jackie sighed as she rang the doorbell. Suddenly, there were pounding noises coming towards the door. Then there were two kids screaming, “I’ll get it! I’ll get it!” and Julia giggled a little. A blonde boy with a blonde girl pushing in front of him opened the door. It was Nick and Bobby Jean (BJ).

“Hey Jules! Hi Jackie! Come on in!” Nick smiled. He let Jackie and Julia inside. They walked into the kitchen and saw Jane. The Carter’s, a lovely family. The mother of the home, Jane, was a sweet lady. She was in her mid-thirties or mid-forties. The father, Robert, or Bob as everyone called him, was the same as Jane in age. Nick, was a blonde boy with blue eyes and he was 4’11” and 10 years old. His sister, Bobby Jean, or BJ, was 8 or 9 years old. Leslie, was 4 and Aaron and Angel (the twins) were 3.

“Oh! Hello Jackie! Hello Julia, how are you both?” Jane smiled.

“We’re okay, but I’ve got to run. I have a meeting in Orlando all weekend,” Jackie said.

“No mommy, don’t go!” Julia said.

“I have to honey. I’m sorry,” Jackie said hugging her child. Julia began to cry.

“Is it okay if I have some time with her?” Jackie asked.

“Sure,” Jane smiled taking Nick and BJ out of the kitchen. Jackie hugged her child tighter and said that she would miss her very much. Julia just sobbed. About half an hour later, Jackie had left with a tearful goodbye. Julia was still sniffling and Nick was trying to comfort her in his room.

“Calm down Jules. It’s okay,” Nick said.

“No, I miss my mommy,” she said. Nick hugged her. Julia cried again. Nick felt so bad for Julia. He got an idea.

“Hey, you want me to sing to you?” Nick asked. Julia nodded.

“Lying beside you, here in the dark, feeling your heart beat with mine, softly you whisper, you’re so sincere, how could our love be so blind, we sailed on together, we drifted apart and here you are by my side. So now I come to you with open arms, nothing to hide believe what I say. So here I am with open arms, hoping you’ll see what your love means to me......open arms...” Nick sang softly.

“Living without you, living alone, this empty house is so cold, wanting to hold you, wanting you near, how much I wanted you home. But now that you’ve come back tonight and today, I need you to stay... So now I come to you with open arms, nothing to hide believe what I say. So here I am, with open arms, hoping you’ll see, what your loves means to me....open arms...” Nick finished. Julia looked him in the eye. She smiled a little and hugged Nick.
