KEN KOLB'S EXPERIENCE WITH TYR #2

"There was a scene we were working on," laughs Ken, "where four of the Young Riders come rushing out of the jailhouse. Four horses are tied up out front, and Josh Brolin, Gregg Rainwater, Ty Miller and Yvonne Suhor comes racing out, untie them and mount up. But, Gregg's horse started going before he had a chance to get up all the way. They had to redo the scene twice, and both times, he couldn't get on the horse. He had one foot in the stirrup and the other dragging on the ground while the horse was taking off."
Ken runs his fingers over his bushy mustache and laughs again with the memory. "Everyone thought it was funny. Josh was snickering about it. So, when they shot the scene again, guess whoes horse starts going before he's in the saddle? Yep, Josh's. He didn't even get his foot in the stirrup, though, the horse just started running and Josh was running behind him."
Of course, the same thing even happened to some of the guys who play the wranglers, so it's no reflection on Josh or Gregg. Ken goes on, "In fact, the director thought it was so funny he said, 'Print it! We'll use it for TV Bloopers And Practical Jokes.'"
According to Ken, everything about the series and all the people involved are very organized. "It's amazing how the work so hard together. There is a sense of well-being with everyone pulling together. No friction at all. They really care about one another, not only the actors but the entire crew from directors to assistants--everyone. It's a real team effort and it may sound corny to say it's like one big happy family, but believe me, it is!"
The stars of The Young Riders have very comfortable surroundings to work in, too. The soundstage built especially for them in Arizonia is as good as those in L.A. and their dressing rooms are wonderful! Says Ken jokingly, "Mine was a little trailer compared to theirs, but I was only their working for eight days. The guys have beautiful places. They're very nicely decorated and so spacious! The walls are mirrored, they've got comfortable furniture, and even kitchens with microwave ovens!
"I was telling you last month about the wonderful guy they have providing food for the cast and crew, and again, I want to stress how excellent he is. He seems to know what everyone wants and if you're into health food, you'll find nuts and raisins, but if meat and potatoes is your style, there is plenty of that as well! He's the kind of guy who brings around cookies and milk when everyone's getting a little weary!"
