Popularity!

Like I mentioned already, Mary and I felt like movie stars. Autographs, pictures with strangers, people pointing us out to their friends... things we just don't experience at home! In Japan, we tended to be approached by young female students. They asked for either our signature or a message. Messages are hard to come up with and Mary continues to tease me for writing "Be all that you can be" in one students book! Well, I was out of ideas!

In Thailand, I'd say we got the most attention in the town of Ao Phang-Nga. Upon our arrival we went out to lunch at a small restaurant. Out of nowhere, three girls on a motorbike arrive and approach us. They have questions already written down and they interviewed each us. The whole school must've had the same assignment of talking to people who speak English because we filled out so many questionaires! It was so much fun and we had a chance to meet the people in that way.

Random People

Looking back, I wish that we had taken more pictures of ourselves with the people that we met out of nowhere. A few didn't work out because my camera didn't work a couple of times. But this is what we came back with.

On the top left is myself at Hiroshima surrounded by a group of girls who wanted our signature. They each had their own camera so all of these girls have pictures of Mary and I! That's not the peace sign I'm giving - in Japan it means that I'm happy. I'm not sure what the open hand is for. You should've seen these girls go nuts when they saw two Caucasian guys walk by! They were too shy to approach them. Maybe that's why Mary and I got so much attention, we're easy to approach!

And to the right is myself, Mary and Jen at the Grand Palace in Bangkok surrounded by a group of girls who had interviewed Mary. They spoke better English than most and their questions were detailed so it was a bit more of a challenge! This time, they gave Mary a gift for helping them out, a small coconut ladle.

On the bottom left is one of my favorite pictures. Mary and I were walking along the beach on Ko Samet one afternoon when we saw a couple walking toward us. They wanted a picture of themselves so we took one for them. Then they asked if we would jump in with the girl so we did! We walked away with smiles because it would've looked so strange to anyone watching. We randomly meet on the beach, take pictures together and then go our separate way!

We're walking down the street in Bangkok when we're approached by two girls with a camera and microphone. Not only are we in people's vacation pictures but Mary got to be on TV!! OHHO is a music TV station and they wanted to ask Mary a few questions about her opinions of Thailand. I wish that we could've seen it air!!

This is just a sampling of the people that we met and doesn't include any of the people that we became friends with while we were in both countries. I hope that you've enjoyed my new additions to the site and that it was worth the wait! Thanks again for visiting!
