A UNITED BODY

Lonnie Bond, SW Washington

The body of Christ is supposed to be united. No matter which church we attend we are still in the same body of Christ. The main belief is that: Christ is the Son of God and He died for our sins, As well as following God’s commands.

The way we choice to worship, praise, pray and thank the Lord should not matter as long as it does not contradict what the word of God says.

There is neither Jew or Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ. Gal. 3:28 (NKJ)

There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female. For you are all Christians – you are one in Christ Jesus. Gal. 3:28 (NLT)

I appeal to you by authority of the Lord Jesus Christ, that you may all   agree with one another (stop arguing) so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought. 1 Corinthians 1:10 (NIV)

If someone feels like dancing and singing praises to the Lord why should that bother anyone especially a fellow believer! We are all unique and our spirits are different. We should not expect everyone to be alike. Just because someone does not pray like you do does not mean that God does not hear him or her!                                                                                      Our relationship with Jesus is personal and it is up to each individual how far he or she wants to take it. Only God can change us, and if we need changing He will deal with us on an individual basis, God does not need our help.

Always keep yourselves united in the Holy Spirit, and bind yourselves together with peace.

We are all one body, we have the same spirit, and we have all been called to the same glorious future.

There is only one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and there is only one God and Father, who is over us all and in us all and living through us all. Eph 4:3-6 (NLT)

Paul teaches that we should always keep ourselves united in the spirit and bind ourselves together with peace. Paul is not talking about an individual church; he is talking about the whole body of Christ. We need to strive to become untied again and break down the denominational and tradition barriers that we as men have let divide the body of Christ. It’s not important that we agree on all the traditions of all the denominations as long as Jesus is the focus of our belief. It’s ok to agree to disagree on some things to reach the common goal.

I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to You. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name- the name you gave me- so that they may be one as we are one. John 17:11 (NIV)

Jesus in John 17:11 prays that the Father would protect us, so we would be as one as the Father and Him. If Jesus took time to pray for us to be united like Him and the Father; how significant is that?  It is clear that we have to strive to set aside our differences and become united as one body, so we can become effective in the world.

How can we accomplish the task that God has assigned us if we can’t even get along with each other?  (The world notices that).

One of the old strategies of war is to divide and conquer, and the devil is a master at it. We are far more powerful if we are united and he knows that. That’s why he attacks us from that angle so hard. Imagine if the whole body of Christ called on the Lords name at the same time, hundreds of thousands of believers voices simultaneously!

In Ephesians 5:27 Jesus is looking for a church that is without blemish stain or wrinkle, but holy and blameless. This needs to be the bodies main drive to become holy and blameless! The rest will all fall into place.
