Described as "a merchant and a machinist, owns a farm near Arlington, is a Baptist, is a musician, has been a leader in the church choir for many years and is a Democrat in politics."

Buried in the family cemetery in Arlington as is his first wife Roberta (1861-1936) and second wife Cora (1890-1955).
Interesting note: Robert's brother George married Sophronia, she being the sister of Robert's (first) wife M. Roberta McAvoy. So, two Fidler brothers married two McAvoy sisters, creating one of several instances of "double first cousins" within the extended family...
