One of the most serene places I know in the world, the cemetery near the farmhouse is hidden away up on a thickly-forested hillside. A very nondescript 2-rut road leads up the side of the mountain to a sudden clearing with gravestones. |

No fence, no signs, no buildings (not even a shed) and no noise whatsoever, except maybe the wind in the trees. |

I don't think this land was ever actually family property, but it was adjacent to the Fidler farm and goes all the way back to before the name "Arlington." (From 1847 to about 1880 the community was simply called Fidler's Mill...) Now belonging to the nearby church, buried in this cemetery are most of the early Fidlers connected with the farmhouse and the mill.
In
fact, the 'big guy' himself is here, i.e. In
1990 we made a complete list of all the Fidlers (and direct relations) buried
here... Just
below
is that listing

The complete
cemetery listing (incl. non-family) looks like it may soon be online here. There's a very partial listing so far, which I assume someone intends to complete eventually(?)... Believe it or not, the cemetery is still in use, and almost every time we visit, there's a new grave. |
