A LITTLE ABOUT THE BAND
GENRE:ROCK
BASED:Torquay, Devon, England
HISTORY: It all started in the early nineties in Teignmouth, a seaside town in the southwest of England.
Matthew first met Chris when he was twelve or thirteen years old. The young Matt played the piano quite well and was trying to improve his technique at the guitar. At that time, Chris was playing the drums in a band called "Fixed Penalty". Dominic also played the drums in a band called "Gothic Plague". When Dominic's band needed a new guitarist, they asked Matt to join them. But after a while all the members of "Gothic Plague" except Dom and Matt left the band. Thus, they decided to ask Chris to join them as he could play the bass and do backing vocals. The trio was created. The band then turned his name into "Rocket Baby Dolls" and finally "Muse".
The first gigs Muse played took place at Teignmouth High School. The bands which were playing there used a boxing ring as a stage. Their first gigs outside of the school were given in the "Cavern" club in Exeter. Muse also played in various clubs and pubs in Devon where they were often asked to play covers. Not pleased with that situation, Muse became more and more determined to play its own music. As the number of the gigs they played decreased, Dennis Smith (owner of Sawmills Studio) started to get interest in Muse. In 1995, Dennis Smith told the band they had promise.
In 1998 Muse suddenly found themselves playing shows in New York and Los Angeles after which several record labels were interested in the band.
The success of Muse and Muscle Museum encoraged the band to write their first album Showbiz. impressed with Muse's ability to both write songs and play live John Leckie(producer of Radiohead's the Bends) decided to join Muse. A world and UK tour was completed in 1999 as well as other single releasesincluding Uno and Sunburn.
During 2000 Muse continued to play festivals and gigs as well as starting plans for a new album and in 2001 Origin of Symmetry was released, the rest is history.
