Hi! Welcome to my "me page"!! My name is Lani - Kitten is my nickname. My favorite color is purple (as you could probably tell). I am a music education major at Central Michigan University and I play trombone. I am a member of Delta Omicron International Professional Music Fraternity and am my chapter's (Delta Iota Chapter) secretary. In my spare time, I love to cross-stitch and sew. I also do lots of other crafts. I am married to a wonderful guy named Josh and have 4 "kids." They are my cats, Morris, Midnight, and Mystery (Mysty for short) and my dog, Dexter. Morris is an orange tabby and looks just like Morris the TV cat. That's how he got his name from the people we adopted him from. Midnight, as you probably guessed, is all black. My roommates at college found him on the steps outside our dorm and then my husband's parents took him in until we got married.
Mysty is my first "daughter." We named her Mystery because it's a mystery as to where she came from. She was outside on our steps one night and was just skin and bones - that's been almost taken care of with as much as she eats! She also has a cold, but is rapidly getting better. Dexter is a really cute German Shepherd/Black Lab mix. He's broken his back left leg twice, but it healed just fine both times thanks to the wonderful work of our veternarian. All of the kids get along ok, and the boys are starting to accept Mysty as another member of the family. They didn't like it at first when we brought her in, but things have changed.

Well, I'm half done with my student teaching now. Those 8 weeks sure went by fast. Band Festival on Feb. 27 went very well. The 7th Grade Band, under my direction, got a 2nd Division rating (Very Good). They were happy about that, and I made them 8 1/2 dozen cookies to celebrate on Monday! They really liked those. I will be working with the 7th Grade Band through the Collage Concert on May 10, but I will also be doing a little bit with both the 8th Grade and High School Bands as well. By now I know most of the kids' names, and all 5 of the bands like working with me. Some of the 5th and 6th graders will come in and the first thing they ask is, "Are we working with Mrs. Drake today?" I guess they must like how I teach!!
In July, I will be leaving for Basic Training for the United States Army. I will be going into the Army Band program and am very excited about it! Right now I'm a Private First Class (PFC), but when I leave for Basics, I'll be a Specialist (Spec.) because I'll have my college degree!! See the blue countdown at the top!
