Welcome to the rant section of Ground Zero. Here you will find thoughts from the folks in the band, posted for your edification and edu-tainment. The opinions expressed here are those of the author only and do not represent the whole band's outlook on life.
Thanks for the memories...
So, it's finally here. The moment we all knew would come. Subshine as a preforming group is no more. Due to illness and the scattering of band members, we just can't stay together. That's why we recorded an album. That's why we're giving it away. Basically, our album is like an archaeological excavation, in that we wanted to record everything before it's lost forever. We wanted something we could point to and say, "Hey, we were pretty damn good." We wanted to give something back to the people who supported us.
I'd like to thank my fellow band members for helping to realize one of my dreams: to perform original music and record it. Their open minds and willingness to sound different made this band one of the most unique that ever came out of Houghton's music scene. I think that everyone in the band was able to pull something out of themselves that they didn't know they could do. Unlike a lot of bands around today, we wanted to provide a positive message. A lot of our songs may be about subjects that are negative, but a closer reading of the lyrics will see that there's always a chance to turn it for the better, but it takes action. Well, it took action to form this band and to not compromise on our music. I think we all can be proud of what we achieved.
Notes on our album: We'd really like to thank Nick Enright for the great work and sacrifice he put in on our album. We couldn't have done it with out him. Any one who wants a copy should contact one of the band members through our email links on this site. We will have limited numbers of discs, so if we are out, you may have to send one of us a blank CD-R and we'll be happy to copy it for you. Or if you know someone who has it, feel free to copy it. Although all our songs are copyrighted, we want free distributtion of our work. Just don't try to claim our songs as yours, or you'll feel the Stark Fist of Wrath.
One last thing: We hope that we demonstrated that it is possible to play original, experimental music and have people like it. We encourage everyone who has ever thought of forming a band to go for it without hesitation. You have nothing to lose. We strongly stress the importance of supporting your local music scene. Go to as many shows as you can. Without the audience, the scene dies. That can't be allowed to happen. If you're in a band, go out and support your fellow musicians. If you're not, support 'em anyway. Keep the scene strong, keep it alive, keep it real, for the love of the music.
