The Coluan supervillain, Brainiac 1 placed his once organic mind into a computerized system that has upgraded himself on several occasions taking the designations Brainiac 2 and Brainiac 2.5. Plotting to further upgrade its capacity, the cyborg utilized the systems of Lexcorp and skipped several steps in evolution, becoming Brainiac 13. However, it was recently discovered that Brainiac shrunk the Kryptonian city of Kandor and placed it into a bottle and that the previous incarnations of Brainiac, (Milton Fine, (who was infected by nanites), the Brainiac 2.5 android, and Lena Luthor (who was also infected by nanites), were probes sent by the original Brainiac to look for Superman.
