Captain Atom’s frustration with the leadership of the Justice League of America led him to form a splinter group that claimed the Justice League name, but was known as “Extreme Justice” for its more proactive stance on combating evil. This Extreme Justice League took the fight to its foes, rather than react to threats. Later, alien shape-shifters and runaway slaves Zan and Jayna were added to the Extreme Justice’s role call, based at an abandoned military complex within Mount Thunder, Nevada. Extreme Justice’s status as a hero team, however, was short-lived. The group’s most notable adventure was a conflict with the Legion of Doom, a team of villains that included Brainstorm II, a robotic duplicate of Gorilla Grodd, Houngan, Killer Frost II, a resurrected Major Force, and the Madmen. After capturing the Legion, Extreme Justice later disbanded with its heroes going their separate ways, many returning to some capacity of membership with the “official” Justice League.
