OBITUARIES
Mrs. S. R. Lusk
Mariah Bemis, was born on the 22nd of May in the
year 1837, and died March 31, 1918, at the age of 81 years, 10 months, and 9
days. Her birthplace was in the state of New York and while she was a child her
parents came to Michigan, locating in the city of Hillsdale, where she resided
in until young womanhood. In the year of 1853, she was united in marriage to
Samuel Rd. Lusk, of Quincy, Mich., and to them six children were born, four
girls and two boys. Of those, four survive to mourn the loss of their mother.
Are: Mrs. Flora Churchill of Quincy, Mich; Mrs. Hattie Matthews of Chicago,
Illinois; Mr. Bennet Lusk of Marshall, Mich. and Mr. Frank Lusk, of Kalamazoo.
Besides her children there are two sisters, Mrs. Mary Mullican, Fremont, Mich.,
and Mrs. Jennie Champan, of Chaigco (s/b Chicago), Illinois, and ten grand
children.
Mrs. Lusk was devoted mother and grandmother. For sometime up to the time of
her death she was taking care of her motherless grandchildren in the city of
Marshall, keeping them together a united family. She was a loyal and devoted
member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and her life was one of simple faith
and trust in her Savior.
She passed away after a short illness at her son's home in Marshall and was
brought to Quincy for burial.
The funeral services were conducted from the Methodist Episcopal church by Rev. John Clemens, on Wednesday morning, April 3, 1918, and interment made in Lakeview cemetery. Beside her own immediate family. Mr. Andrew Jansen of Grand Rapids, Mich., a son-in-law was also in attendance.

SAMUEL RICHARD LUSK DEAD
The following is taken from the Kalamazoo
Telegraph of last Friday:
Samuel Richard Lusk, 73 years old of Comstock, died Friday morning
following a stroke of apoplexy.
Mr. Lusk was born in Clarendon, Orleans County, New York, July 19,
1838. He came to Michigan when a young man and married Miss Maria Bemis of
Hillsdale, March 14, 1858.
For many years he was in the railroad business, but a few years ago
settled on a farm near Comstock.
Besides a widow, five children survive: Mrs. Churchill of Quincy, Mich.,
Mrs. Andrew Johnson and Mrs. Mathews of this city, Frank Lusk of Comstock and
Bennett of Stanley, Mich.
It was said that Mr. Lusk at one time owned 320 acres of where the city
of Lincoln, Neb. is now located.
The remains were brought to Quincy for burial yesterday.

OBITUARIES.
SAMUEL R. LUSK.
Samuel R. Lusk was born in Clarendon, N. Y., July
19, 1838, and died of apoplexy at his late home in Comstock, Kalamazoo county,
Mich., Feb. 10, 1911.
He came to Michigan in 1853 and located in Branch county. He was
married to Maria Bemis, of Hillsdale, Mich., March 14, 1858, and built them a
home on west Chicago street, Quincy, Mich. Here they spent the greater part of
their married life. In 1898 he made a trip to the gold fields of Alaska, but
did not find conditions favorable for a lengthy stay. He moved to Comstock,
Mich., in the spring of 1909, where he was engaged in dairy farming.
He was a member of the I. O. O. F., a kind, loving husband and father,
and a cheerful and obliging neighbor and friend. He was an honest, hard working
man, with a varied experience in life's journey and tried earnestly to do his
share of the world's work.
His sickness was of very short duration, being stricken with apoplexy
early Friday morning and died Friday even'g.
He leaves to mourn his departure his faithful wife, two sons and three
daughters, Mrs. Florence Churchill of Quincy; Mrs. Andrew Jenson and Mrs. James
Matthews of Kalamazoo, Mich.; Bennett, of Stanley, Mich., and Frank, who is at
the parental home; also one brother, Alfred G. Lusk, of Barberton, Ohio; one
sister, Mrs. Rose Pease, of Quincy, besides eight grandchildren and other more
distant relatives. One daughter, Mary, died about ten years ago.
The remains arrived here Saturday evening, accompanied by his widow, son
Frank and Mrs. Churchill, the latter going to Comstock Friday. The funeral was
held at the Methodist church at 10:30 Sunday morning, conducted by the pastor,
and interment was made in Lakeview cemetery.
The widow and children wish to thank one and all who assisted at the
funeral, also for the floral offerings.
