NOTE: Mary Huntoon was listed as a child of Samuel and Hannah Ladd, but given the date of birth, this is clearly impossible.  I've placed her under Anna Mills, but Margaret or Anna could be her mother.  It is more likely to be Anna, because Anna is most likely the youngest of the 3 wives and most likely to be able to successfully bear children in 1789.

18. Capt. Nathaniel Huntoon was born on 18 Jun 1721 in Kingston, Rockingham Co., New Hampshire,65 died in Feb 1793, and was buried in Unity, Sullivan Co., New Hampshire, East Unity Cemetery.66

• 30 Sep 1762, in Crown Point, Essex Co., New York: He was a lieutenant in Capt. Jeremiah Marston's company. His son Caleb and his brother Joseph were privates in the same company at the same time. 217

The first Town Meeting in Unity was held at the home of Capt. Nathaniel Huntoon on Dec. 31, 1773. At that time, the population of Unity was 106." 218

• 15 Mar 1776, in Unity, Sullivan Co., New Hampshire Revolutionary War record: "Agreeable to a Vote Passed in Congress at Exeter Jan 4 1776, I herewith make return of the Commissioned Officers of the Several Companys in the Sixteenth Regiment of Militia in the Colony of New Hampshire... 9th Comp[any] in Unity, Nathaniel Huntoon Captain, Amos Chase 1st Lieu[tenant], Moses Thirston 2nd [Lieutenant], Simeon Giddens Ensign.... • Oct 1776, Revolutionary War record: Captain, Col. Benjamin Bellow's regiment. 221

1790 census in Unity, Sullivan Co., New Hampshire: Nathaniel: 10-2. 222

• 25 Dec 1792, in Unity, Sullivan Co., New Hampshire: he signed his will. Capt. Nathaniel Huntoon is one of only a few of his or any earlier generation in Colonial America to record a Last Will and Testament. He bequeathed money to each of his living children, to the children of his dead daughter Hannah Glidden, and to six children of his son Philip. He gave nothing to the children of his daughter Sarah Wilson, and nothing to the children of his son Caleb Huntoon. Sarah and Caleb were the oldest of his six children.
Capt. Nathaniel passed the bulk of his estate to three grandchildren, Willard, Nathaniel and Hilton, sons of his son Philip. To Willard, about 17 years old at the time, he bequeathed half of his land. To Nathaniel and Hilton, 8 and 7 respectively, he bequeathed the other half, to be shared between them equally "in quantity and quality". Why did he favor the sons of Philip and ignore the sons of Caleb? Earlier He may have settled land on his older son Caleb, and thus felt no need to give anything to Caleb's children. But his son Philip, we know, was still alive in 1792, so why did Capt. Nathaniel pass most of his holdings to grandsons Willard, Nathaniel and Hilton, not son Philip?
Capt. Nathaniel did not mention Isaac Farwell Huntoon, who would have been less than a month old when the will was signed. Some records suggest that Isaac was born in Vermont, and no records have been found placing him in Unity in 1792. His father's name, Philip, appears on no Unity records after the 1790 census until 1795. If in 1792 Philip was living far away (by 18th century standards), it's possible that Nathaniel didn't know about the birth of another grandchild when he drew up his will. It's also possible that Philip's three older sons remained in Unity, and Capt. Nathaniel, not knowing if his son Philip was dead or alive, and if alive, whether he would ever return, he bequeathed to the grandsons instead of their father.
