Elizabeth married Thomas Philbrick Huntoon, son of Samuel Huntoon and Hannah Ladd, on 9 Aug 1777 in Charlestown, Sullivan Co., New Hampshire.¹¹³ Thomas was born on 2 Nov 1753 in Kingston, Rockingham Co., New Hampshire ¹⁷⁸, died on 2 Jan 1831 in Concord, Lake Co., Ohio ¹¹¹ ^,113, and was buried in Concord, Lake Co., Ohio, Huntoon Cemetery.¹⁹⁰

Thomas Huntoon and Elizabeth Huntoon were second cousins. Data on the descendants of Thomas Huntoon and Elizabeth Huntoon have been compiled by Carolyn Daniels Rodosta of Carlsbad, Calif. (1998).

Ohio Pioneer. Around 1813 he moved to Lake County, Ohio, taking at least six of his children along with him. At least one grandson (Ethan Prentiss) died in 1909 and was buried in Lake County.

His sons Scribner and Corbin wrote a long letter that stated, in part the following: that he married Elizabeth Huntoon on 9 Aug 1777 in Charleston, Cheshire Co., N.H.; that he died in Concord, Lake Co., Ohio on 2 Jan 1831 aged 78, and that his wife died there 30 Oct 1847, age 88, leaving children Scribner, Corbin, Betsey wife of Jonathan Whipple, Mahala wife of John Prentiss, all then living in Lake Co., Ohio. ¹¹³

• Benjamin was the grandfather of Daniel T. V. Huntoon, the compiler of the original Huntoon Genealogy. Daniel was 14 years old when Benjamin died, and in his genealogy he recounts a conversation he had with his grandfather. Elder Benjamin was born twelve years after the death of the progenitor Philip Huntoon, and was 15 years old when his grandfather, Philip, the son of the progenitor, died. So some of the things that Daniel T. V. Huntoon writes about in his genealogy, in particular the story of the original Philip's capture by indians, may have been passed down orally through a relatively small number of witnesses.

• From a book published in 1891: One day, when my cousin, Mehitable Huntoon, was visiting us, and I sat in a little chair by her side, in the same room with grandmother, - the call again came, so loud that Mehitable heard it, though I had ceased to notice it. Greatly surprised, my cousin turned to me and said, "Your mother is calling you!" but I answered not, till again the same call was thrice repeated. Mehitable then said sharply, "Why don't you go? your mother is calling you!" I then left the room, went to my mother, and once more asked her if she had summoned me? She answered as always before. Then I earnestly declared my cousin had heard the voice, and said that mother wanted me. Accordingly she returned with me to grand- mother's room, and led my cousin into an adjoining apartment. The door was ajar, and I listened with bated breath. Mother told Mehitable all about this mysterious voice, and asked if she really did hear Mary's name pronounced in audible tones. My cousin answered quickly, and emphasized her affirmation. ⁴¹⁷

Maine Pioneer. He was the first person named Huntoon known to have lived someplace other than New Hampshire. He settled in Maine sometime between 1769 and 1776. Unwelcome in Newcastle, he apparently found a place to settle in Readfield, where he gave land to the town for a patch of ground now called the Huntoon Cemetery, and where his descendants lived for several generations, and perhaps still live. The author of the first Huntoon Genealogy thought that Peter "lived in Wiscasset, Me.," but I find no record of that. However, Peter's brother, Jonathan settled in Wiscasset, and was counted there in the 1790 census, the only Huntoon not listed in New Hampshire.⁴⁴⁸

H., and the application indicates he had a wife named Mary (W22217). To Caleb's application, Mary Sisco adds that "Caleb Huntoon in company with his brother Philip Huntoon...resided in the town of Unity when they enlisted."⁴⁸⁰ ^,515

While the present Philip Huntoon was alive in 1810, was seen in Unity in 1808 and again in 1814, I can't find an 1810 census record him. His wife would later be buried in Charleston, and her sister lived there. Their household might have contained Isaac Farwell, Hilton, Eliza and another little girl.
The records of the 1810 census that have come down to us are actually copies of something else, placed in alphabetical order in a single hand. It is easy to imagine some bored clerk seeing "Philip Huntoon," or even "P. Huntoon" on some scrap of paper, and writing "Peter Huntoon." We have a clear example of something like this happening in the 1800 census to the entry for Josiah Huntoon in Unity, who was listed in the census as Joseph.⁵²⁸

Both Anna and Hannah are listed in the Huntoon Genealogy, but I have never found another mention of Anna in any contemporary record. Hannah's name appears in several places, her grandfather's will among them. Since the two names are usually interchangeable, it's hard to imagine that Anna and Hannah would have been alive in the same household at the same time. I am inclined to believe that either Anna never existed, or she was born and died before 1782, the year Hannah was born.
