"At Hartford he was a member of the court which tried the first offender; enacted the first law, and declared war against the Pequots 1637. His name appears prominently in the purchase of the Plantation of Totoket, now Branford, where he settled in 1644, and held an estate of 435 acres."

"He was a friend and co-adjutor of Mr. Pierson in New Haven, and accompanied him to Newark. The tradition is that his daughter Elizabeth was the first to land on the shore of Newark. He died 1682 and left by his will all his estate to his 'beloved wife Joanna.'"
