Traditional Lebkuchen Cookies

Heat on low burner, but do not let boil, and stir frequently until brown sugar is dissolved:
1 pt. Honey
1 pt. Molasses
1/2 c. Margarine
1/2 c. Shortening
1 pt. Sour cream
4-1/2 c. Brown sugar

Remove from heat and pour into 6-quart bowl. Let cool for 15 minutes.

Add:
5 c. finely chopped walnuts
6 eggs (add one at a time, beat after each addition.)

Use 16 cups of flour. Sift 2 cups of this flour with the following ingredients:
2 tbsp. Cinnamon
1 tbsp. Cloves
1 tbsp. Nutmeg
1 tsp. Allspice
1 tbsp. Salt
4 tsp. Soda

Chill overnight in refrigerator. Can be refrigerated for a week. Roll 3/8" thick on floured surface. Cut in 2" squares. Bake at 375 degrees F. for 8 to 10 minutes; Do Not Overbake. Makes 200 cookies

Hint: Since this batter is hard to remove from the bowl when chilled, I separate into 3-cup amounts and place in baggies while batter is still warm. Chill in these bags and shape into ball when chilled while still in bag. Peel out of plastic bag onto floured board and roll out as directed. Enjoy!!!!
