Welcome to Darin's online photo album. This page is dedicated to Mark Martin. One of the ever so famous and popular Winston Cup NASCAR drivers. Mark drives the Valvoline/Cummins Ford Taurus. Marks home town is in Batesville,AR. He was born on January 9, 1959. Mark is 5'6" and weighs 150 lbs. Mark has a wife, Arlene and four children Heather, Rachel, Stacy and Matthew.

In any year except 1998, Mark Martin would have been the driver on center stage at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York, accepting the NASCAR Winston Cup Trophy and enjoying the plaudits befitting the Series' Champion. He scored more points in the season than any other driver except Cale Yarborough in 1977, and yet, finished runner-up to Jeffy Gordon for the crown. With 7 victories and 22 top-five finishes, Mark Martin and the Valvoline team displayed the consistency needed to win championships, but they were beaten by the record-setting effort turned in by Jeffy's Rainbow Warriors.

Mark finished in the top six in the final point standings for the 10th straight season, and during those 10 years, he was in the top three a half-dozen times. The 1998 season marked the third time he has been the runner-up to the champion. He hopes 1999 will be brighter after struggling with back pain throughout the 1998 season. Expect Martin and the Jimmy Fennig led Valvoline team to once again challenge for the crown.

The term "big rig" truly fits a NASCAR team transporter. It is a fully equipped race shop on 18 wheels. Inside Martin's trailer you can find 2 race cars,several engines and chassis, a full machine shop, 2 war wagons(one which goes into the pit for track-side repairs, the other contains large parts and goes into the garage), a small kichen and bathroom, and storage for secondary transportation such as a golf cart,scooter or motorcycle. Also, there is a full office with fax machines and computers,where track-side business deals are often made. The cab has a sleeping area for Mark and the trailers roof acts as an observation deck so team members can be "above it all" on race day.

Mark Martin has had one of the best NASCAR Winston Cup careers any driver could ever ask for. With his talent and dedication to the sport and having Jack Rousch as the owner of his team has made him the best there is. In his 17 years of racing in Winston Cup he has entered 403 races with a total of 30 wins,162 top five finishes,and 241 top ten finishes which has earned him more than 19 million in winnings.

Mark Martin has dominated the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division, despite not running a full schedule in the series since 1987. The NASCAR Winston Cup Series star has 41 career victories in the NASCAR Busch Series, more than any driver in series history. In 1998 he continued his mastery of his part-time job, winning the Car Quest Auto Parts 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway and the Stihl Power Tools 300 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. A four-time ASA champion, Martin started NASCAR Winston Cup Series racing in 1981, and ran a full season in 1982 with a family-owned team. After running only 22 races between 1983 and 1987, he ran a full NASCAR Busch Series schedule in 1987 for car owner Bruce Lawmaster and became the first driver in a Ford to win at Dover. That win attracted the eye of Jack Roush, who was setting up his NASCAR Winston Cup team for 1988. He returned to the NASCAR Winston Cup Series with Roush, and ran selected events in the NASCAR Busch Series with Bill Davis in 1989 and 1990, before starting his own team for a limited schedule in 1992. Roush took over in 1993.

In another fantastic year of Busch Series races, Mark Martin won an outstanding 43% of the 14 races he entered. In addition to his six wins, he also earned nine top five's, 10 top 10 finishes and three poles in his Winn-Dixie Taurus. The season did not start out as he had hoped, as he scored only a 39th place finish at Daytona. Martin led the race for a few laps until he was caught up in an accident on lap 43. The following week turned out much better with a second place finish at North Carolina Speedway.

Mark Martin began his stock car racing career at the age of 15 on the local Arkansas dirt tracks. He won his first race in only his third start, and the Arkansas state championship in his first year of racing in 1974. He moved up to the V-8 division in 1976 and began racing on asphalt later that year. His success continued, and by 1977 he began competing in the ASA series against drivers such as Rusty Wallace, Bobby Allison and Dick Trickle. He became the ASA Rookie of the Year in 1977, and then went on to win three consecutive championships from 1978-80.

Martin ran five NASCAR Winston Cup races in 1981, which began laying the groundwork for his first full season in 1982. He had an impressive rookie year with eight top-10 finishes, although he never received payment from his sponsor. Unable to fund the team himself, Martin auctioned off everything in his shop in April 1983. He ran a limited Winston Cup schedule for different owners that year before returning to the ASA series. He ran the ASA series from 1984-86. Martin was paired with crew chief Jimmy Fennig in 1985 and claimed another championship in 1986. Little did Martin know that he and Fennig would be reunited as driver and crew chief in 1996 at Roush Racing.

Martin decided to take one more shot at NASCAR racing in 1987 when he drove a full-season Busch Grand National schedule for Bruce Lawmaster. It was Mark�s victory at Dover that year that sparked the attention of Jack Roush. Roush was preparing to begin his own Winston Cup team for 1988 and selected Martin to be his driver. Since then, Martin and Roush have achieved everything just short of a Winston Cup title. Together they have earned 32 Winston Cup victories and finished second in the point standings three times (1990, 1994 & 1998).

Mark Martin is ready to put the 2000 season behind him and is looking forward to the changes ahead of him in 2001. In addition to a new primary sponsor, Martin and the team will also have a new shop in Concord, N.C., some new cars to race and a few new faces going over the wall on Sundays.
