Jack Roush Racing
If intensity and determination were the factors that determine NASCAR Winston Cup Series champions, Jack Roush would have a shelf full of the coveted trophies.
A winner in every phase of the sport he has ever entered, Roush is a former drag racer who turned his engineering prowess into a company that does research and development work for every American car company.
His teams have won championships in every level of motorsports, with the exception of NASCAR Winston Cup Series racing. However, in stock car racing's premier class, his Fords have been contenders since he began fielding his first team 11 years ago.
Roush joined Ford Motor Company as an engineer after graduating from Berea College in Kentucky in 1964. He gravitated to a group of Ford employees who called themselves the "Fastbacks," who pursued drag racing during the height of the muscle car era.
It was there he developed a reputation for building engines that win. By the early 1970s Roush was building a drag racing team and won the IRHA Pro Stock World Championships in 1973 and 1974.
This season, he will have five teams in action in NASCAR's top series, with Chad Little, Johnny Benson, and Kevin Lepage based in Liberty, N.C., and Jeff Burton and Mark Martin at the Charlotte facility.
He is the owner of Roush Industries, which has more than 1,300 employees and 1,000,000-square feet of building space in four states, as well as the countries of Mexico and England.
