(1977)
Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry co-scripted this telefilm pilot starring Robert Culp (of TV's I Spy and the classic '60s Outer Limits episodes "Demon with a Glass Hand" and "The Architects of Fear") as a respected detective who specializes in the occult. In this story, his two-man detective firm is hired to take on a haunted estate in England that turns out to be infested with the spirit of a satanic druid.
Directed by British theater great Clive Donner, whose many screen credits include the acclaimed 1984 TV adaptation of "A Christmas Carol," it co-stars Gig Young (Oscar-winner for "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?") and John Hurt just before his Alien breakthrough (so to speak). SPECTRE was heavily promoted at the time but failed to sell as a TV-series.
