Chapter 19: A few days later

Tyler's in the middle of an NFL match with his dad on Playstation when a knock sounds at the door.

"Tyler phone!" Chris yells above the noice from the TV.

"Who is it?" Tyler yells back.

"Crystal I think."

"Be right back dad." Tyler grabs his phone and walks out of the room and into the back of the bus for some privacy.

"Hello?"

"Hi, um I went to the dance." Crystal says

"Yeah Jonathan told me." Tyler says with a frown

"Yeah well um...look he kind of asked me out and I said yes."

"Oh."

"I'm sorry, but nothing was happening between us."

"It might have...eventually."

"Eventually yeah, but I can't wait that long. Besides, I don't think I would have been able to handle the long distance thing. I'm really sorry Tyler."

"No, it's ok. Bye." Tyler trudges off to his room to finish the game but his heart just isn't in it and Steve notices.

"What did Crystal want?"

"To tell me she's going out with some guy."

"She dumped you? I'm sorry."

"No dad, I never asked her to be my girlfriend."

"Oh I'm sorry, I thought you had. Why didn't you?"

"Because I want to go out with someone else."

"And who's the lucky gal?" Steve asks confused

"Tracey." Tyler says barely a whisper

"Does she know this?" Steve asks in shock

"No she doesn't know and don't tell her."

"Ok, but I think you should."

"Maybe some day, but I can't right now. Let's get back to the game. I believe I was about to beat you."

"No, no no son I was about to beat you."
