Security and your PC

I promote using a layered approach to security.  Just like guarding your home, different things help secure different parts of your home or in this case, computer. Locking your windows and having a motion detector will help parts of your home, just like an antivirus and spyware detection will help parts of your computer, but they won't take care of *all* of your home, nor your computer if your front door is left not just unlocked, but wide open.  Using an antivirus program along with a firewall, spyware detector, a spyware prohibiter, and common sense handling of email each provide another "layer" of protection for your computer.  There's more to it, but the above are examples.  You'll hear me talk about "layered security" or "layers" of security throughout this site.

Other things for security:

Be cautious about using too simple of a password.

Be careful who is allowed to use your computer.
