Desc. of William Groome of Calvert/Pr. George's Co., MD, know that in his
will written 3 Feb 1676, he bequeathed "...a Certaine farme in old England
once in the tenure & occupation of one Steevens who is at present is in
Controversie in Law my brother Robert Groome defending my right therein at
a place called Ivengoe in the county of Berks..."
Ivinghoe is in Buckinghamshire, bordering Berkshire (the Stevens name was
in residence there at the time the will was written).

County Missouri and have seen your ancestors' entry in the "Old Men of Clay
County" series in the Liberty Tribune may be interested in the oath the men
were forced to take in order to vote. Frieda Waters of the Clay County
Archives, found a copy of the oath, which had been folded, pasted, and used as
a wrapper for another document. She carefully pieced it together, and sent a
copy to Joan Tharp who send a copy to .

and allegiance to the United States, and will support the Constitution and laws
thereof as the supreme law of the land, any law or ordinance of any state to
the contrary notwithstanding; that I will to the best of my ability protect and
defend the Union of the United States, and not allow the same to be broken up
and dissolved, or the Government thereof to be destroyed or overthrown, under
any circumstances, if in my power to prevent it; that I will support the
Constitution of the State of Missouri; and that I make this oath without any
