My Great Uncle wrote out information on the family as told to him be his
father (Carter's son Zachariah). It reads as follows:
"My father told me he was Scotch-Irish, this fact having been handed down to
him from generation to generation. He stated that three brothers landed on
the New Jersey coast prior to the revolution period in the early colonization
of America - one having moved soughward and settled in Virginia. It is a
known fact beyond question that our father descended from Zachariah Groome the
first, one time living in King-Queen's County, Virginia - Zachariah Groome
being my father's grandfather. My grandfather was Carter Groome, born in
Virginia and migrated to Caswell County, North Carolina and married in to a
large family or Butler's. He married Mary Butler."
