Changes

by Sandra S. Oidtman

My life has changed;
I'm more independent and gay;
And I've left the nest,
To start a brand new day.

I'm happy now,
It's been, oh, so long;
But I have grown cheerful,
And I've grown strong.

You are right, Mother,
I'm no longer hanging on;
I have found my wings,
I have found my song.

But, Mom, I know you,
And don't you dare
Ever get a thought,
That I don't care.

It was you who raised me,
You helped make me strong;
You held my hand,
When the years grew long.

Even though I'm flying high,
In a sky that's so blue;
There's no one I'll

Ever love like you.
