A New Year

As the old year ends,
And a new one begins;
We look for hope,
That pain and suffering will end.

We pray for peace,
In countries war torn;
We pray for joy,
In those so forlorn.

We pray for kindness
And a lot of brotherly love;
We pray for God's graces
To rain down from above.

We listen for laughter,
And look for God's bright light;
We pray Jesus returns,
What an amazing sight!

So on the first day of the new year,
Check what is abiding in your heart;
Make sure Jesus is your first love,
And your year will have a great start.
