A Selfish Love

He could not hold me in his arms,
He could not touch me with his charms;
He could not love me as I needed,
The warning signs were not heeded.

So, I sent him away from me,
Before he took my soul, you see;
And now my heart cries out with pain,
But loving him was done in vain.

His love was selfish and greedy, too,
He can't give back his love to you;
All he knows is how to take,
And cast a heart upon the lake.

It's sad but true, this tale I tell,
My heart has learned a lesson well;
Is there a man in this land,
Who can hold my heart in his hand.

A man who will love and hold and give,
And teach my heart to once again live;
A man who'll hug and hold me tight,
A man who'll love me through the night.
