December, 2002

Obviously, it's been some time since I've updated, again. My dear brother died on the 6th of April of this year. As passings go, it was a good one, with friends and family on hand to see him off into the great unkown. I feel him smirking smugly, knowing the answers to questions we can only continue to ask about existance. I know that he is loving that! LOL!

We are still adjusting to life after that great adventure, and I am slowly getting back into the routine of things. I can honestly answer "How are you?"s with a "Fine, thanks!" now. I am able to look at the wonderful memories of my brother much more frequently than I get caught by the sad ones.

I could not have had this time with him if we did not homeschool. I am so grateful that we made this choice so many years ago.

In this year of strife and stress, I wish you all good things.
PEACE ON EARTH! GOOD WILL TO ALL!
May your home be bright with the light and cozy warmth of love!

November, 2001

Well, it's been a few months since I've even had a chance to update this page. My eldest brother found out in July of this year that he has a brain tumor. Needless to say, our lives have taken a different turn since that alarming day.

Homeschooling gives us the benefit of being able to field such things as a family when life pitches us a curve. We all get to be here, together, and help him and ourselves through the whole ordeal.

He is living with us now, which gives the kids someone else to talk with and learn from, and the adventure of life is going on. Between taking him to treatments and doctor appointments, we are having a good time sharing life. He is a great guy, and we are cherishing every minute we get to have him around.

With some luck, his positive attitude and the skill of the doctors, that may be a good while yet, though the prognosis is grim, life is, indeed, what you make of it. Of course, he's never been one to conform to the norm, LOL, so we are striving to stretch the envelope. Any prayers and good vibes you can send our way will be much appreciated.

It will be spring before he is through with all of his chemothereapy, and until then, our focus will be narrow. I hope to get back to keeping the pages current then.

Thank you for coming, and for your patience. 8^), annie

In the meantime, enjoy some of the great sites we have found through the years by visiting other pages at Sassafrass Grove.

JUNE, 2001

Normally, I would send you to HomeSchool Dad Magazine
because fathers play a significant role in the education of their children, and you can get some great cool tips and ideas there. Unfortunately, it is apparently under construction, but worthy of your bookmarking and coming back to when it is up and running.

In the meantime, have a great Fathers' day, and try this listing of matches to "Fathers homeschooling" on www.google.com (my favorite search engine!)

MAY, 2001

ALL ABOUT MOTHER'S DAY
A great history lesson on the recognition of, arguably, the most important profession of all.

Though every day is mother's day for me, I really enjoyed learning more about the celebration and cooperation of mothers throughout the centuries. Life, viewed through the eyes of a mother, is certainly colored by the love of her children.

It has often been said that if mothers ruled the world, peace would be upon the earth and no mother's child would go unfed, unclothed, unloved, or ... off to war.

Now, that's food for thought.

MARCH, 2001 - March? Are you sure there was a "March" this year? I'm not convinced. It may have been a figment of your imagination. I certainly didn't experience any month of March this year... at least, I certainly didn't experience getting the Site of the Month link up, so it must have slipped past me unnoticed! It's a government plot, no doubt.

All the sites chosen for Sassafrass Grove are good, but you don't always have time to go through the vast number of links, so, since November of 1999, we have tried to feature an exceptional educational site each month.(when "Life" hasn't had other ideas! LOL!)

When you have time, come back and check out some of the other great links we've found over the years.

If you have suggestions for a Site of the Month, have questions or find broken links, please let us know via e-mail.
