Well as I said before, I started playing music when I was 12 or 13 years old. I have only played Irish Traditional music, but I enjoy lots of other types. My second love would have to be American Country Music. I especially like Garth Brooks, Brooks and Dunne, Clint Black, The Judds, Alison Krauss, George Strait, Alan Jackson...........etc. etc. Actually when you know the history of Country music thats not all that surprising. It appears that American Country Music has its basis in emigrants from Ireland and Scotland long ago. These people brought their music with them to the Appelachian Mountains, and there it mixed with other musical influences. Then along came a little known singer named Elvis Presley and he was influenced by the blues and country music and Voila! Rock and Roll!! This is how I understand it to be, but don't quote me. |

The Willie Clancy Summer School has to be the best of the best festivals. You will meet there the cream of Irish Musicians from all over the world. And also those people who are only starting to learn about Irish music, young and old. Everyone is the same there, their experiance or competance irrelevant, all are treated the same. I have been going to this festival for 20 years and have made some great friends there.(hi all!) If you ever find yourself in Ireland on the first week of July, you have to visit us. Will you look at this shower!!! The guy on the left with the Fiddle is Barney, and the BIG guy in the middle with the Banjo is Werner.(Guten Tag) I met these two at the Willie Week a few years ago, they are two fantastic Irish Musicians, and great mates.
