"The suction's going to pull us down," Jack said in a hurry, for he did not have a lot of time to talk since the Titanic was going down fast before their very eyes. "Take a deep breath when I say." Rose nodded her head as she listened to Jack's important instructions. "Kick for the surface and keep kicking. Do not let go of my hand. We're gonna make it, Rose. Trust me," Jack said, trying to speak over the harsh waters eating the Titanic whole.
"I trust you," Rose said. Rose held tighter to Jack's hand as they came closer to the water.
"Ready...now!" Jack yelled.
Rose and Jack at the same time took a huge gulp of air as they approached the water. Rose felt the stabbing of a thousand knives, just like Jack told her as she was about to give up her life. She felt Jack's hand still and held on tight to his hand. Rose could feel someone tug on her life jacket that Mr. Andrews gave to her. She felt Jack kiss her, and then she could feel herself lifting up to the surface. As she took in a gulp of air, she looked beside her, and there was no Jack.
"Jack! Jack!" Rose yelled.
She kept on looking around, but there was no sign of Jack coming anywhere. Rose started to shiver, and she knew she had to find something to lie on or otherwise, she would be a human life preserver. Rose started to swim through the cold waters. She then came to a huge piece of wreckage. She climbed onto it, and looked around for Jack or any type of boats. She did not see any boats, or Jack. The only thing she could see or hear was the scream of a thousand people and the struggle to save their lives. She wondered if Jack was in there, and was screaming for help or Rose's name. She hoped that Jack was fine and that he would survive out there. Tears started to come down Rose's eyes, and shivers covered her body. Rose started to look up at the stars. It seemed that tonight they had this magical swirl about them. She saw many shooting stars and thought that maybe, Jack's lovely prediction about shooting stars was possibly right.
Rose heard a mumble saying, "Is anyone alive out there? Can anyone hear me?"
Rose turned her head over to where the noise was coming from and she saw an officer in a boat, shining the light on dead bodies. The light then shone on Rose, and the boat stopped. Rose lifted her head up, and stared at the boat.
"Come to the boat!" the officer yelled.
Rose swam towards the boat. The officer could tell that the woman was suffering from the effects of cold water, and was ready to give out. Rose pulled herself up on the boat, and she could feel it move, and she fell back into the water, making a splash.
"Well, don't just stand there, bloody help her!" the officer yelled.
The crewman helped Rose and pulled her up onto the boat. Rose lay on the side of the boat and let out a sigh. The cold water practically sucked the energy out of Rose. Even trying to get up onto a lifeboat was hard work for Rose. The crewman covered Rose up with a blanket, and she fell asleep.
