Chapter Twenty-Eight

It was the next day when it was time for Jack, Rose, and Audrey to go back home. Rose wore an outfit similar to the one when she had worn to breakfast the morning she saw Jack on the Titanic. Jack wore his regular outfit, and Rose had Audrey bundled up in some fleece blankets since it was so cold. They went to their staterooms, and Rose decided to rest with Audrey. Jack decided he would too, and they lay on the bed as Jack held his little girl. To tell the truth, Jack wasn't one bit sleepy, but he knew Rose needed the sleep, so he lay beside her with Audrey laying on him as Jack steadied her. Rose slept through the whole afternoon, and Jack walked around with Audrey, and even took her on deck. Jack made sure that he had lots of covers on his little one, and he sat down on a deck chair with her. People passed by Jack and Audrey commenting on the bundle of joy that Jack was holding. Jack looked up at the sky, and then down at Audrey.

"I'm going to take care of you, and your brother Max. Yes, I am."

Jack kissed Audrey's small forehead, and stood up. He decided to go back inside since it was to cold out for Audrey. He walked back into the room, and Rose jumped as she lay on the bed.

"Did I wake you up?"

"No, I was just dozing on and off. I guess you closing the door just startled me. How is Audrey doing?"

"Good. I took her out on deck for a while." Jack sat next to Rose on the side of the bed.

"You wanna come and see Mommy?"

Rose held out her hands for Audrey. Jack gave Rose to Audrey, and she started to cry.

"I guess she's hungry now." Rose chuckled.

She started to feed Audrey, and Jack took his long coat off and placed it on the chair. He went back over to Rose and the two admired Audrey.

"She has brown hair. Jack, did you have any relatives on your side who had brown hair?"

"No. Not that I know of. Did you?"

"No, but maybe it will get a brownish red when she gets older."

"Maybe. Those brown eyes are beautiful."

"I know. They're just like precious jewels. Jack, I can't wait until we reach America. I want to see Max and all our friends again. I hate these ships...blast these ships!"

"I know how you feel, Rosie, but since the Titanic they've made ships more safe so they won't sink as easy as Titanic did."

"Jack, why do you always think of the right things to say?"

"It runs in the family, I guess."

Rose smiled.
