Chapter Six

Jack and Rose waited patiently in line for a train ticket.

"It's absolute mayhem," a man around Jack's age said in front of them.

"I know, I feel so sorry for all those women and children who lost their loved ones on that doomed ship," the woman next to him said.

Rose held Jack's hand tighter and he looked down at her.

"Can you imagine being in cold ice water for over an hour? I couldn't stand it, I certainly know I would die," the woman said. The woman then dropped something and picked it up. She then got a glimpse of the woman who was standing behind her. "Morning," the woman said.

"Morning," Rose said back.

"Where are you two headed?"

"Virginia."

"Really? So are we. What part?"

"Norfolk."

"Oh, what a coincidence. We actually live there."

"How is it there?"

"It's absolutely beautiful. The street where we live on is actually a couple blocks away from the beach." The woman paused. "I'm Anna Cook, and this is my husband, Scott."

"I'm Rose Dawson, and this is my husband, Jack."

"Hello." Anna smiled, and Jack nodded. "So, have you two heard about that ship accident?" Anna asked.

"I'm afraid so," Jack said.

"See, that's why I don't like ships or boats. Unsinkable, ha! That's what the White Star Line gets for showing off their ships," Anna said.

Rose just smiled and looked at Jack.

"All right, Anna. Calm down," Scott said, putting his hand on her shoulder.

Jack and Rose chuckled.

"Next!" the ticketer yelled.

Anna and Scott turned around and paid for their fee. Jack and Rose stepped up to pay for their ticket also.

"Good evening, folks. Where are you headed to?"

"Norfolk, Virginia."

"Would you two mind if you had to share a cabin with another couple around you folks' age?"

Jack and Rose looked at each other for one moment, and then Jack faced the ticketer, saying, "No, that will be fine."

"Thank you for being cooperative, and have a nice ride." The ticketer smiled, and Jack took the ticket.

Jack and Rose stepped onto the train. "I hope our neighbors are friendly." Rose chuckled, and the two started to look for the cabin. They found it, and opened up the cabin door.

"Well, hello again." Anna smiled, as she came over to Rose and Jack.

"Well, I guess you're the two that we're sharing rooms with," Scott said, smiling.

"We're just in the middle of getting settled. I hope you don't mind," Anna said.

"Oh, no. Not at all," Jack said.

"Are you two hungry?" Scott asked.

"Yeah. We really haven't had a decent meal yet today."

"Well, Anna and I were just on our way to get something to eat. We were wondering if you two would like to join us."

"Sure," Rose said with a smile.

Scott and Anna started to exit the cabin and Jack and Rose followed.

Jack, Rose, Scott, and Anna sat at the dinner cart with their finished meals in front of them.

"So, how long have you two been married?" Anna asked, setting down her coffee.

"Not even a month." Jack chuckled.

"We have been married for about a year."

"You see, you think that we would be coming down here for our anniversary, but actually Anna's grandmother was sick, and we had to comfort her. Luckily, she was fine when we got to her house."

"That's good to hear," Rose said with encouragement. "How long have we been sitting here?"

"An hour or so," Jack said, looking at his watch.

"No wonder I'm so tired." Rose yawned, and leaned her head against Jack's welcoming shoulder.

"I'm ready to go back to the cabin," Anna said.

"Well, we'll meet you there," Jack said, laying down the proper amount of change on the table as Rose slipped out.

"Well, we'll just come along with you," Scott said, sliding out. The two went back into their cabin.

"You know, I'm not even tired now." Rose chuckled.

"How about a round of poker? Loser pays winners couples meals for the rest of the trip," Scott says.

"Um, Scott, I really wouldn't make bets like that when you're playing against Jack Dawson," Rose said proudly.

"Well, then, it seems that we are competing between the best and the best," Anna said.

Jack shrugged his shoulders, and said, "Deal me in."

"Me too," Rose said.

Jack looked at his newlywed wife in disbelief. How could someone so upper class know so many things that you would only learn how to play at a pub or from your father?

"Me, too. Scott has been teaching me how, and I have it so far down."

"All right, then. Aces and suicide kings are wilds."

Scott started to shuffle the cards, and pass them out. Rose gave Jack a smirk, and Jack winked at Rose.
