Over the Rainbow

Perhaps one of the most famous and known aspects of the Wizard of Oz are the wonderful songs weaved into the story. And, the most famous song of the movie is, of course, Over the Rainbow. This song has touched the hearts of millions for over 60 years. Judy Garland and this song went together like no other artist and song in history. This remarkable and beautiful song was written by Harold Arlen (music) and E.Y. Yip Harburg (lyrics). But can you believe that Over the Rainbow was cut from the film after the second preview! It's true! This was because it slowed down the picture, and it was thought to be unjustified to have Judy singing in a barnyard. But, producer Mervyn Leroy and his assosciate, Arthur Freed argued the song back into the film. Thank goodness! Since this song is so famous and synonomous with Oz, I think it deserves it's very own special page. The page's gray background represents Dorothy's life in Kansas. The text and bars represent the colorful land Dorothy dreams about in her song. The page is decorated with the famous picture of Dorothy singing her song, and I even have the song playing for you right on this page. Over the Rainbow isn't any old ordinary song from a movie. And that is why this special page with music, lyrics and more was created!

Lyrics to:

Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Way Up High
There's a Land That I Heard of
Once In a Lullabye
Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Skies Are Blue
And the Dreams That You Dare to Dream
Really Do Come True
Someday I'll Wish Upon A Star
And Wake Up Where the Clouds Are Far
Behind Me
Where Troubles Melt Like Lemon Drops
Away Above the Chimney Tops
That's Where You'll Find Me
Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Bluebirds Fly
Birds Fly Over the Rainbow
Why, Then, Oh Why Can't I?
If Happy Little Bluebirds Fly
Beyond the Rainbow
Why, Oh, Why, Can't I?
