Biography
On 26, may 1966, Helena Bonham Carter was
born in London, and already her situation was quite confortable. Begining
with her great grandfather, lord Herbert Henry Asquit, birtish Prime Minister
by the begining of the twentieth century. Her grandmother, Lady Violet
Bonham-Carter was also a great politician as she was a memeber of the House
of Lords. More related to cinema, her grandoncle, Anthony Asquit, is a
screenwriter and has directing a few films, including The Browning Version,
or The importance of being earnest. Her parents insured her a god situation,
her father, Raymond, was a merchant banker, as for her mother, Elena, she
was a psychotherapist. Helena took advantage of her mother's origines (half
french, half Spanish) and now, she speaks fluently French. But her bilingual
expirience is not the only gift Helena Bonham-Carter has. She also was
a good poetess when she was younger, indeed she participated to a poetry
contest in her (tens) and won the prize, which was cash money. When
she was ten, Helena's father was hospitalized for a stroke, and a benigne
brain tumor. While her father was in intensive care, Helena used her money
to publish her photograph in a casting directory. At the same period, she
was looking for an agent, which she found through the yellow pages. Two
years later, she got her first 'part' in a commercial. At the age of 18,
Helena Bonham-Carter decides to take the Oxbridge exam, to attempt Oxford
or Cambridge where she planned to study English literature and philosophy.
But it seems that Trevor Nunn decided something else for her as he choosed
her to perform Lady Jane in the omonymous play. Though Bonham-Carter willed
to attempt college, Nunn persuaded her to audition, and she got the part.
After two days playing Lady Jane, Bonham-Carter was offered an other part
by E.M. Forster in A room with a View. apart from there, Helena Bonham-Carter's
career is getting longer and longer, most of her parts being in period
films, to which she quikly get assimilated : "If a period film opens and
I'm not in it, the critics write 'and Helena Bonham-Carter's role is played
by...'. Period movies are my destiny. i should get a few ribs taken out
because I'll be in a corset for the rest of my life'. Only time will prove
that her talent is above all these well educated, well mannered londonian
woman she is said to be on screen and off screen. In fact, both are mixed
when talking about Helena Bonham-Carter " Everyone seems to think I'm very
ladylike. That I'm cultured and intelligent. I drink a lot of Diet Coke
and blech. I've been known to use the F- word. I've told a few dirty jokes.
I arm-wrestle". Her cultured and intelligent woman image will be torn in
pieces in Fight Club, where she plays a twisted, siucidial woman. Until
her next period movie, we will be able to enjoy her talent in Tim Burton's
Planet of the apes, a remake of the 60's famous movie.the release date
has not been anounced yet, but it is still being shot. Also, Til human
voice wakes us, the story of a man who returns to his nativ town in Australia,
and will enconter the ghosts of his past. upcoming for Helena Bonham-Carter.
