as Will Will Smith is a versatile performer who has worked in television, film and music. In 1986 he became known in the music industry as "The Fresh Prince." This led to the creation of NBC's "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." Smith's feature film work is highlighted by his performance in the Academy Award-nominated "Six Degrees of Separation." His other film credits include "The Wild Wild West," "Enemy of the State," "Independence Day," "Men in Black," "Made in America," "Where the Day Takes You" and "Bad Boys." Smith is a Philadelphia native who began rapping at parties when he was 12. He joined with musician Jeff Townes in 1981 and five years later they became D.J. Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. The award-winning duo won a 1988 Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance and a 1991 Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. Plus, Smith and Townes were honored at the 1992 NAACP Image Awards as Outstanding Rap Artists. His latest album is "Big Willie Style." |
