The Gabriel Johnson Heady Family
Gabriel Johnson Heady was born to Thomas S. Heady and Sarah Barnett Johnson on February 11, 1835 in Switzerland County, Indiana. In 1837, Gabriel's father died in a horse accident. His mother married Conrad Lepper in 1841 in Switzerland County, Indiana. Between 1849 and 1850, Gabriel's mother and stepfather moved to Davis County, Iowa. Gabriel went with them.
When he was about 17yrs old, Gabriel Heady worked for a Daniel Moyer as a farm hand.
An excerpt from his obituary in the Davis County Republican states, "When 19 years of age he cut and squared by hand dimension timbers from his own land for two residences then being constructed in Bloomfield both of which are still standing."
On October 3, 1857 at the Madison Knudler's residence in Davis Co., Iowa, Gabriel Johnson Heady wed Leah Elizabeth Conner.
Leah Elizabeth Heady died on December 4, 1916 in Bloomfield, Davis Co., Iowa. Gabriel Johnson Heady followed her on May 19, 1917 in Bloomfield, also. Both are buried in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.
CHILDREN OF GABRIEL JOHNSON AND LEAH ELIZABETH HEADY:
- Laura Belle Heady, born March 3, 1857 and died Sept. 18, 1930.
- She married (1) Dr. Josiah Swinney on Dec. 31, 1879.
- She married (2) James Samuel Stark on April 10, 1924.
- Emily Louise Heady, born Aug. 24, 1858 and died Aug. 12, 1918.
- She married Boon Swinney on Jan. 5, 1879.
- Condo Cumin Carrel Heady, born Oct. 24, 1861 and died Sept. 3, 1960.
- He married (1) Luella May Ware on Oct. 1, 1882.
- He married (2) Mary Riley on March 24, 1912.
