Dear Gayle and cousins, ... items with sources that I have on Robert Mozingo, his daughter Caroline F. Mozingo, his wife, Fanny Utz, and his father-in-law, Solomon Utz. Linda....

Item #3: "89. Fanny Utz b. May 14, 1800 (Hebron records) m. Robert Mozingo." From: Memorial Foundation of the Germanna Colonies in Virginia Incorporated, Germanna Record No. 10, (April 1967 (2nd Printing Jan. 1979)), p. 69.

Item #4: "22. Solomon Utz (George, Michael, George) was born June 19, 1775 and died in Rappahannock Co., Va. in 1833. He married Mar. 3, 1798 Elizabeth Clore (b. Dec. 5, 1776), daughter of Peter Clore and his wife Mary Fray (see Clore Family). She was still living in Rappahannock Co. on July 11, 1857, when she made a deed of trust to Joseph Grimsley of 50 acres, for the support of her daughter, Margaret Grimsley, and her children (Rappahannock D. B. "K", p. 155). She may have been living as late as April 13, 1868, when an Elizabeth Utz made a deed to John A. Utz (D. B. "M", p. 56). However, this Elizabeth was probably her daughter.
On Sept. 19, 1828 Ephriam Clore and Amy his wife, Peter Clore, Moses Clore, John Clore and Judy his wife, Aaron Clore and Rosa his wife, Augustus Utz and Julia his wife, Allen Utz and Polly his wife, Augustus Weaver, Jeremiah Weaver, Polly Foster, Coleman Carder and Peggy his wife, and Joseph Weaver and Betsy his wife, deeded to Solomon Utz of Culpeper Co. 50 acres, part of a larger tract that belonged to Peter Clore, decd. And to be divided among his heirs (Culpeper Co. D. B. "UU", p. 483). The appraisal of Solomon Utz decd. was dated July 16, 1833 Shadrack Williamson and Dicey his wife, Elizabeth Utz, Allen Utz and Mary his wife, Morgan Mozingo and Cassandra M. his wife, and Mary Utz, all of Rappahannock Co., and Robert Mozingo and Fanny his wife of Culpeper Co., deeded to Johnson McQueen the land purchased by Solomon Utz in 1827 from the heirs of Peter Clore (Rappahannock D. B. "A", p. 228). On Dec. 31, 1842 Elizabeth Utz receipted Aaron Clore of Madison Co. for money due her from her late brother, John Clore, decd. (Rappahannock D. B. "E", p. 122); and on Nov. 7, 1842 Elizabeth Utz, and John Grimsley and Margaret his wife, Elizabeth being the daughter of Peter Clore, decd., and John Grimsley having married the daughter of Solomon and Elizabeth Utz, deeded to Strother McQuin 1/8 of a tract of 50 acres in the possession of Elizabeth Utz, being willed to her by her father, Peter Clore (same, p. 123). This last deed shows that Elizabeth and Solomon Utz had 8 children; the 1833 deeded cited previously shows 6 other children. The 8th child was probably John Utz (perhaps the John A. Utz who received a deed from Elizabeth Utz in 1868), shown in the next paragraph.
The Census of 1850 for Rappahannock Co. shows the following Utzes: (1) Family No. 26, Allen Utz aged 40, Mary Utz 44, Mary Utz 16, Eliza A. Utz 14, Lewis Utz 10, John Utz 8, Lucy Utz 4; (2) Family No. 89. Daniel Utz aged 8 is shown in the family of James W. Bruce, aged 31; Family No. 400. John Utts aged 36, Margaret Utts 34, Margaret Utts 13, Allen Utts 7, William Utts 5, Estelle Utts 3, Fountain Utts 2.
Allen Utz of the Census was proved son of Solomon Utz. No. 22. He and his wife Mary appear in a deed of trust May 24, 1845 (D. B. "F", p. 244). Mary was perhaps a Mozingo, as the will of Benjamin Monzingo, dated Sept. 17, 1849 and probated in Rappahannock Co. April 21, 1851 (Circuit Court W. B., 1833-78, p. 44), in addition to legacies to his wife, his sisters Margaret and Lucy Williamson, and his brother Sirius Williamson, leaves land to "John Utz, my nephew, who is now living with me". John J. Utz, this nephew, deeded the 60 acres left to him by Benjamin Mozingo to Reed and Scott Mar. 6, 1860 (D. B. "L", p. 22). He was probably identical with John Utz aged 8 in Allen Utz's family in the 1850 Census; and probably Daniel Utz aged 8, living in the family of James W. Bruce in 1850, was another son, the two boys, apparently twins, living with relatives.
"John Utz aged 36" of the Census of 1850 was almost certainly a son of Solomon NO. 22, being not yet of age in 1833 when the 6 older children deeded away the land. John Utz was deeded land by Robert Embrey and Sarah his wife in 1847, and he and his wife Margaret deeded it away in 1855 (D. B. "G", p. 329; D. B. "J", p. 253). John Utz married Margaret Clark in Rappahannock Co. Dec. 16, 1842. (Rappahannock Marriage Register, p. 21). The child Margaret Utz, aged 13, in his family in 1850 could have been a daughter of his brother Allen, unless he was married previously.
Issue of Solomon Utz No. 22 and his wife, Elizabeth Clore:
88. Disey (Dicey) Utz b. Dec. 11, 1798, m. Shadrack Williamson (birth date from Hebron Church records).
89. Fanny Utz b. May 14, 1800 (Hebron records) m. Robert Mozingo.
90. Elizabeth Utz (probably) of the 1833 deed; also, probably, the Elizabeth Utz who deeded land to John A. Utz in 1868.
91. Cassandra M. Utz m. Morgan Mozingo.
92. Allen Utz b. 1810 (Census), m. Mary (Mozingo?) and in 1850 had the
following children: (1) Mary b. 1834; (2) Eliza A. b. 1836; (3) Margaret
(perhaps) b. 1837, living in the family of John Utz in 1850; (4) Lewis b.
1840; (5) John b. 1842, probably the John J. Utz who was left land by his
uncle Benjamin Mozingo; (6) Daniel Utz (perhaps), living in 1850 in the family
of James W. Bruce; (7) Lucy Utz b. 1846.
93. Mary Utz, of age but unmarried in 1833. It is not improbable that the
Mary Utz, b. 1806, in the family of Allen Utz in 1850 and 4 years older than
Allen, was this sister Mary rather than Allen's wife Mary. It is possible
that the latter had died, which is compatible with the fact that some of his
children seem to have been living with relatives around this time.
94. Margaret Utz m. John Grimsley.
95. John Utz, b. 1814 m. 1842 Margaret Clark, and had in 1850 the following children: (1) Allen b. 1843; (2) William b. 1845; (3) Estelle b. 1847; and (4) Fountain b. 1848." From: "The Utz Family of Germanna --- Fourth Generation"
