Notes for Margaret MOZINGO:

No surviving document gives the name of John and Elizabeth Mozingo's children. Their family is reconstructed by the process of elimination. All the Mozingo's in that time period who weren't named in Edward's will are assigned to John. Not very scientific I realize but it's the best we can do with the information we have. Edward II's will states that he had a daughter named Margaret but I believe that his brother John Mozingo did also. It is John's daughter that married Francis Chandler and later George Hinson.

George and Margaret (Mozingo) Henson would have married sometime between July 29, 1741 and Nov. 10, 1753. These dates are based on two Westmoreland Co, VA records and Edward Mozingo's will.

29 July 1741 p.115a George Hinson of Washington parish being presented by the Grand Jury for living in adultery with Margaret Chandler a Mulatto the wife of Francis Chandler within Six months then last past The said Geo. Hinson now appearing by William Kennon his attorney on whose motion an imparlance is granted him til next Court

Clearly Francis and Margaret (Mozingo) Chandler were still married at this point even though they had both moved on to other relationships.

1753 Nov 10 Richmond County. Edward MOZINGO wrote his will in Lunenburg Parish. He named his son John, Edward and George; daughters Sarah CHANDLER and Margaret and daughter-in-law Hannah. Witnesses included Robert HALL, Daniel MILNER, and Susannah Newman MOSESS. Also mentioned "... George Henson and Margaret his wife..." The will was probated on 1 April 1754 (Will Book 6, p. 20).

George and Margaret Henson were mentioned in Edward's will. And he specifically stated that Margaret was George's wife. So there is no doubt that by the time Edward Mozingo wrote his will George and Margaret Henson were all ready married. I don't know what the divorce laws in VA at that time were or where you would look to find them. But it appears that Margaret and Francis either divorced or he died and leaving Margaret free to remarry.

In his will Edward Mozingo named his children. He called his married daughter Sarah by her full married name - Sarah Chandler. In contrast neither his daughter Margaret nor daughter-in-law Hannah had a last name given. This inconsistancy on Edward's part leads me to believe that Margaret's surname at the time his will was written was Mozingo like her sister-in-law's. If Margaret Henson had been the daughter of Edward Mozingo I would think that she would be handled in his will like her sister Sarah and given her full married name - Margaret Henson. Therefore I believe that there were two Margaret Mozingo's in that time period and that Margaret Mozingo Chandler Henson was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Mozingo.
