Dear Samie, You will find information about Sarah Settles in the Settle-Suttle Family, by William Emmett Reese, p. 726. I travelled to VA and spent a week in King George, Richmond and Westmoreland Counties. I even saw a Mozingo Billiards Parlor. The marriage record exists in KG Co. p. 24 Marriages 1786-1850. There is a deed from Thomas Settle deceased in Bk.9, p. 201 mentioning John
Mozingo and Sally his wife (Sally is a common nickname for Sarah), Joel Settle and wife Nancy and James Owen and wife Mary. In 1807 these children sold the land to James and John Dunn, presumably before departing for Washington Co., VA. Wash. Co. was in the boondocks then and the census reports for 1810 are very hard to read. The Mozingo name is badly misspelled. John, George and William are found in the 1810-20 censuses, typical spelling is "Mesingo". In 1821 William sold his land and they headed for Indiana. In 1820 John and possible a brother are in Clark Co., IN. In 1830 they are in Johnson Co., IN. There is an erroneous DAR record in Johnson Co. Volume 2, part 2 where it states that John's father was George who was a Revolutionary soldier and his mother was Ann Rogers. George was the son of Charles Mozingo, a French colonist. I have been unable to verify any of the above. Yes, Charles did have a son George, and George did have a son John but it just doesn't fit. I have not been able to locate Ann Rogers, period. The rest of the DAR records seem to be correct.

Now back to John. Sarah died somewhere around 1810-12 and John married Harriet Kennedy in Washington Co., VA. There is some doubt as to whether Joel is her son or Sarah's son. John and Harriet had 3 more children - Martha born 1812, Elizabeth, and Joseph born 1820. I have attached Joel to Sarah since Sarah had a brother named Joel. Possibly Sarah died at his birth. There are probably some answers to all this in Washington Co., VA, but I haven't found them yet.

John's will is in Book A, p. 101-23 Johnson Co., IN and was probated 15 jul 1864 and dated 7 nov 1848. ... judy
