Here is a quick draft of the Mozingos I have been researching. I had mentioned previously that I live in Florida but I was New Jersey born and bred. My dad left MS with his mom in the 1950's so I actually had no idea about any of my southern ancestors and that is what got me interested in the family tree....

William Mozingo Jr. married to Catherine Shirley. Their children: Nancy, John W. or M., Lucinda J., Dinisha, Mary A., Sarah A., Perlina
The above children are listed in the 1850 census for Choctaw County, AL.

The 1860 census shows the son John age 28 in the county of Choctaw, post office-Bladon Springs listed with his wife Penah (Periah) age 19 and a 2 year old son James, all born in AL.

The 1870 census shows the wife of John (John is not with them, perhaps he had died?) living in Oak Ridge, Vicksburg, Warren, Mississippi. The wife is listed as Parine M.Zingo age 28, James age 12, Robert age 10, Mary age 8, and William age 5. Since William is age 5 I assume John probably died around or after 1865. Everyone is listed as being born in AL.

In 1880 the daughter of John and Parine?-Mary Margaret Mozingo is living in Oak Ridge, Vicksburg, MS married to a James Hooter with a daughter, and her brother William Mozingo age 15 living with them who was born in AL.

In 1900 Mary Margaret Mozingo is listed in Vicksburg, MS married to Charles Buck Smithhart, (her 2nd marriage). Their daughter Nellie Smithhart was my Great Grandmother. I have her death certificate which lists her mother as Mary Mozingo born in AL. I have recently found a death date for Mary Mozingo and I plan to send to MS for her death certificate to hopefully verify my info.... Donna

....Additional findings on Pernina, wife of John Mozingo of Alabama. ...On the 1880 census page with Mary Margaret Mozingo married to James Hooter in Oak Ridge, Vicksburg, Mississippi, I noticed a Samuel Marley age 86 with a wife (name looked like Pervina) age 39. After investigating on the LDS site I found a marriage extraction for this same Samuel Marley married a P.M. Mozingo abt. March 5, 1878. As far as I can determine I believe this is John Mozingo's wife Pernina.... Donna Randall
