My Bowmans begin with a William Bowman, I have nothing on him except his name. He had at least one son John W. Bowman my GGGgrandfather I have him dying in Wheeling, Ohio Co. WV December 20, 1869. He married Rebecca Mosingo on December 05, 1853 she was born in Va. abt 1840 and died in WV about 1877. His children are John W. Bowman (my GGgrandfather)b. October 12, 1864, Charles Bowman, Henry Bowman, Joseph Bowman. John W. Bowman b.10-12-1864 d.3-25-1958 at Grigsby Rest Home, Beech Bottom, WV., married Margaret W. (Maggie) Holiday (Holliday) b. 8-28-1858 in Wheeling WV, d. abt 1895. They had at least two children, Carrie Mae Bowman (my Ggrandmother) 2-13-1883 d. 4-14-1968 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and David Bowman b.abt 1886. This John W. had at least three more wives Clara Clogston, Mattie Wiseman married 1-17-1895 and Alice Brown married 8-07-1909. There has always been a story that one of the wives was a Blackfoot Indian. Carrie Mae Bowman married Charles Wesley Dukes (Duke)December 24, 1901. I have nothing to prove he was Cherokee but what Korena told me. I wrote to the Eastern band of the Cherokee in North Carolina today so we'll see what they say! Korena is a decendent of Robert and Francis' son Samuel Clay. She said the only book is one family members have put together so the address I gave you may not work. She use to as live in Wellsburg also. Do you know her? She moved to Fl. with her parents. I have all of Robert and Francis' children if you need them. As I said before my gggrandmother was their daughter Rebecca who married John W. Bowman. They lived around Short Creek Cemetery, W.Va. which leads right to the road where Robert lived.
If I can help let me know. Do you still live in Wellsburg? I work at Elder Beerman at the Ohio Valley Mall and live in St. Clairsville.
