Gayle: ... I am in North Carolina, originally from SC, and I have been working on the Creel family tree off and on for several years. Thanksgiving of 1997, I met a lady in Marion County, SC, who has an amazing box of original documents going back to the early 1800's. It was left to her by her grandfather. As it turns out, we are distant, distant cousins, and there is quite a bit of info about my family in that box. I hadn't been able to take the Creels back beyond James Creel, who first appears in SC records in an 1804 land grant for 1000 acres from the state of SC -- until the box. In the box is a family tree, handwritten, with the last entry made in 1807. This is where you come in, and I hope you might be able to shed some light on things. Text of the tree is as follows:
>Sarah Mozingo, the daughter of John Mozingo and Ann his wife, was Born the 27th Day of January in the year of our Lord 1748--
>Sabre Mozingo, Daughter of Sarah Mozingo was born the 27th Day of April in the year of our Lord 1769--
>James Creel the son of Sarah Mozingo was Born the 7th Day of September in the year of our Lord 1772--
>Sarah Allen the Daughter of Henry Allen and Sarah his wife was Born the ? Day of May in the year of our Lord 1781 --
>Dolly Allen the Daughter of Henry Allen and Sarah his wife was Born the 10th Day of March in the year of our Lord 1782 --
>William Allen Son of Henry Allen and Sarah his wife was Born the 7 Day of December in the year of our Lord 1788 --
>Ann Boston the Daugher of Sabre Mozingo was Born the 13 Day of July in year of our Lord 17? --
>Sarah Boston Daughter of William Boston and Sabre his wife was Born the 2 Day of May in the year of our Lord 1798 --
>S Cinthy Hanah Allen the Daughter of Sally Allen was born January 9th Day in the year of our lord god 1807-- -- th -- -- -- -- --- th th th th

I haven't found anything about the Mozingos in SC. I don't know where they came from, where they went...I don't know squat, and I haven't found anything in SC records to indicate they stayed here. I am curious about your John and Ann Mozingo. Could they have been in Robeson County, NC, or Marion District, SC in the 1740's? .... It's ironic that my father lives 26 miles from James Creel's land grant, but we don't know much at all of our family history. Time has eroded bonds among family members and the older folks still around are so close-mouthed, they are hesitant to share info or documentation they may have. Be that as it may, I look forward to hearing from you. I was amazed to see John Mozingo and his wife Ann in your correspondence yesterday. I hope you can help lift the veil for me.
