There is a question about who John and Ann Mozingo's children are. A deed was registered in Dobbs County October Court 1772 for a land transaction that Ann Mozingo made after John's death. From this record we can say that John probably died in late 1772 and before he was granted his exemption from paying public taxes and performing public duties in February 1773 recorded in "The Colonial Records of North Carolina, Volume IX, Part 2, 1771 to 1775." The deed references a will that of course no longer exists. "...The above Two hundred acres was Sold to the said Rouse at Public sale agreeable To The last will and Testament of the said John Mozingo Decd as might appear By the Last will and Testament of the said John Mozingo Deceasd..." This deed included Ann Mozingo, Sarah Mozingo, Pricilla Mozingo, Robert Dees and James Skipper. Robert and James would probably be the husbands of two married daughters. Note there are no Mozingo sons listed in this land deed. This was of their final piece of property. So the fact that there are no sons listed in this deed becomes important. Either John chose to leave no property to a son or he had no sons. Since there are several daughters included in this transaction I would lean towards the idea that John and Ann Mozingo had no sons to leave their property to.

... The Mozingo Road in Pitt County is about 26 miles (the way the crow flies) from Bear Creek in Lenoir county. Bear Creek (Le Grange area) is(I think) where the first Mozingos from Virginia settled. I found what I'm sure is the same road (Mozingo) on a 1864 map, the road adjoins lands owned by House, R.Anderson, A. Joiner and, Edward Walker. No Mozingos. Reese
