Services 3 p.m. Wednesday, First United Methodist Church, Pflugerville. Burial Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery, Pflugerville.

Doug Monzingo Doug Monzingo, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed peacefully from this life surrounded by loved ones on May 17, 2008 after a difficult struggle with cancer. Doug was born May 11, 1939 in Stamford, Texas to Garland and Maurine Monzingo where he grew up and played on two state high school championship football teams under the legendary coach Gordon Wood. After high school, he married the former Kay Galbreath and both graduated from McMurry College in Abilene. He started a coaching and teaching career with stops in Gail, Crosby, Thorndale, Littlefield, and Rotan. He left coaching and moved the family to Austin. He returned to coaching after a 20 year absence and coached golf at Pflugerville High School for the last 12 years of his working career. Doug was preceded in death by his youngest son Alan Monzingo and his younger brother Mike Robinson. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Kay; son Jeff and wife Sandy; son Mike and wife Suzi; and daughter-in-law Denise. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Clay, Jenny, Cory, Megan, Brian, Morgan, Madison and Mason as well as his younger brother Montie and wife Vivian; and sister-in-law Leah Robinson. Visitation is on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 N. IH 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at 3:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church of Pflugerville, 500 E. Pecan Street, Pflugerville, Texas 78660 and interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery. Pallbearers include his beloved grandsons Clay, Cory, Brian, Mason and his dear friends Jerry Williams, Kenny Mire, Scott LaPoint, John Jazesf, and Chris Leal. Honorary pallbearers are his dear friends Dallas Christian, Don Groves, Dexter Smith, Bruce Kensmoe, Ron Sandford and Joe Ressler. Donations in his name, if desired, may be made to First United Methodist Church of Pflugerville - Building Fund, P.O. Box 560, Pflugerville, Texas 78691. The family would like to thank the fine medical staffs of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Pflugerville Care Center, Cornerstone Hospital, and North Austin Medical Center.
