George Mozingo signed the administrator's bond on behalf on JOHN SHIRLEY at
the death of John's father MOSES SHIRLEY in 1826 in Darlington County, SC.
We know that one of George's daughters married a brother of John named
Moses Shirley. Other siblings of John included Catherine who married William
Mozingo, Nancy who married Emanuel Hearon, Nathan who married in Alabama
Emily Sikes, Martha who married a Skinner, and David.
In the late 1820's, GEORGE MOZINGO, JOHN SHIRLEY, WILLIAM MOZINGO and his wife CATHERINE, EMANUEL HEARON and his wife NANCY, MOSES SHIRLEY and his wife SUSAN MOZINGO, and NATHAN SHIRLEY moved to Dallas County, Alabama. In the mid 1830's they moved westward to Washington County, Alabama( area today in Choctaw County, Alabama. George Mozingo is living in the house of Moses Shirley in 1860 census for Choctaw County, Alabama. I have always thought that William Mozingo was a son of George. Some people say no. John Shirley married an ELLY ?. I have always thought she was either another daughter of George Mozingo or a SKINNER. My great great grandfather who appears to be a son of JOHN and ELLY is named JOHN PINKNEY SHIRLEY. I know that Pinkney is a name that both the Mozingos and the Skinners have used on occasion.

FYI, I am not a Mozingo descendant, but this may help some of you folks. On the other hand, I am a SEGERS descendant, and would like to know what became of the three orphans JESSE, ELINOR, and BIJAH SEGERS mentioned below --Rulon N Smithson.
_____________
The LDS Ancestral File ( www.familysearch.org ) shows a GEORGE MOZINGO and wife "SARAH SIGNERS". From the following documents in Darlington County, South Carolina, it looks as if GEORGE MOZINGO married the widow of WILLIAM SEGERS (he died 1804), her name not presently known through the records in Darlington County, but from the family source on Ancestral File, likely "SARAH". The "SIGNERS" name there appears to be a close guess for SEGERS, carried down in the family.

Samie, I have Josie Belle Walker Bowden's book on the Skinners. Some of the work is by Howard Skinner and they are both dead . I called Josie Belle quite a few years ago and her daughter told me that she was bedridden and near death with cancer. She asked me what I wanted with her and of course I told her that Bob Skinner had told me about her book, and I was looking for info on George and Mary Skinner Mozingo. That I also wanted to buy a book. I assume her mother heard her talking to me and she told her daughter ,she wanted to talk to me. She told me that she always wanted to find some of George and Mary's kin and was glad I called. She told me that there were no more books for sale, but her daughter had one in Mobile. I called and begged and pleaded with her and she finally let me copy it. Bob Skinner had already told me that George Mozingo married Mary Skinner
