God is a God of love, but He abhors sin, because it defiles us. It might "feel good", but it messes up our lives in so many ways. God doesn't want to stop us enjoying ourselves, but nor does He want us to do ourselves harm. And when we go against His will and sin, we do harm ourselves. But He gave us a free will, because he wants us to worship and serve Him voluntarily. If we just worshipped Him robotically, mindlessly, dare I say religiously, our worship would mean nothing, and we would have no real relationship with God. As it is though, our relationship with him is non-existent as long as we continue in our sins.

When God created Adam and Eve, they enjoyed a special relationship with Him, and got on pretty well with each other too. But they broke that relationship by sinning, by rebelling against Him. You see, God gave Adam and Eve a choice, like He gives all of us a choice, and they chose to disobey Him. Instead of listening to God, they listened to the snake, "that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan: which deceiveth the whole world" (Revelation 12:9). He told them the great lie that they could disobey God and it wouldn't matter. "And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die". (Genesis 3:4)

But boy, did it matter, and it still does. "That old serpent" is still busy conning people today, leading them to think they can do whatever they please and it won't matter a jot. Look what a state the world is in because people believe this and many other lies that the Devil tells. "He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." (John 8:44) You think you can do what you like, and get away with it do you? YOU'VE BEEN CONNED BY THE FATHER OF LIES! God said, "Ye shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy" (Leviticus 19:2). But outside of Christ, there is no one who is holy. Some people, especially religious leaders, might call themselves "holy", but if they do not know Christ, then they're liars. Only the God in Three Persons is holy. We His creation are full of sin and wickedness to the very cores of our being.

"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

Any of these sound familiar? Ever had sex outside marriage? (It's the "new morality" - old immorality, more like it!) You're a fornicator. Ever had "one too many?" You're a drunkard. Whatever your sins are, you're unrighteous.

But now comes the GOOD NEWS! Yes, God is holy, and yes, He abhors evil utterly. But (oh praise God for this "but"!) He is also a loving God, Who loves each and every one of us more than we can comprehend. "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool." Isaiah 1:18

"And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up. That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." John 3:14-18 (My emphasis)
