NEW L.P. STUFF

L.P.: long play.  old term used for 'album'.  but sounds so much cooler. waiting for the 4th l.p. radiohead are probably in the studio recording their new l.p. as you read this. radiohead did take Nigel Godrich on their tour so they could record all their new stuff while on the road... radiohead have written many new songs... some have been played during soundchecks... and yes, some have been played live during their '97 tour.   oh, and knowing the perfectionists in radiohead, don't expect a new album until late 2000.

Ed has been keeping a diary of the recording sessions currently going on.  This can be viewed here.  New songs that have been mentioned in the diary (and therefore have been recorded) are: Dollars and Cents, Innocents Civilian, Kinetic, You and Whose Army, How To Disappear Completely and Never Be Found, True Love Waits, Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses, Bombers, Egyptian Song, Cuttooth, Follow Me Around, I Will, Lost At Sea, Optimistic, Everyone-The National Anthem, Morning Bell, Knives Out, Up On The Ladder, Say The Word, Everything In Its Right Place.
In addition to this, Nigel Godrich, Radiohead's producer, has mentioned that both Motion Picture Soundtrack and True Love Waits have been recorded.

New and Unreleased Song Info

Some songs have realaudio files available to listen.  Download the latest realplayer G2 at www.real.com if you don't have it (will not work with older versions). To download these files, right click the download button for PCs (or hold down for macs) and select 'save as'.  However, if you have a half decent internet connection, streaming would be a better option, no waiting times.  cool.  Oh, and for your own personal use, blah blah, buy radiohead records.  Don't reproduce them or anything.

• Egyptian Song (?) (aka Nothing To Fear, aka untitled piano song)

  This is the new song that Thom performed at the Tibet99 show in Amsterdam.  Just a solo piano affair, expect it to be much more built up if it ever appears. Unofficially known as 'Nothing To Fear', somehow it has been deduced to be 'Egyptian Song' which Ed has mentioned in his diary.  Don't ask me if it really is, it might be completely wrong. • Big Boots

  (download/stream) My sexy-but-sometimes-erratic cut and pasted Big Boots. possibly what it would sound like if released. although probably not.
  Originally titled Man-O-War, (until the line featuring 'Man-O-War' was changed), this song was written around the time of 'The Bends' session, but not recorded.  Described by thom as a james bond theme tribute, it was played a few times during The Bends tour, but surprisingly did not surface on OK Computer. Without a doubt, the best unreleased song.   An aborted attempt at recording the song for 'The Avengers' sountrack can be seen during the 'Meeting People Is Easy' video, and you can see the band's (or at least thom's) frustrations with the song.  However, this was probably due to the 'one day' contraints of trying to record it, and since the band has many months to record new material, this song will hopefully resurface on the next l.p.

• Big Ideas (don't get any) (download/stream)
  Originally called 'Nude', the title amazingly originated through internet rumours.  Thom liked the title so much when he heard it on MTV's 120 minutes that it stuck, (this fantastic scene can be seen on the Meeting People Is Easy video). Currently, the official title according to Colin is the outrageous '(Don't Get Any) Big Ideas (Cause They Aren't Going to Happen)'.  Of course, Colin may have been totally out of it, or just joking as well.  Whatever this song is called, it has been played by thom alone acoustically at a Tokyo gig during their tour in 97, and also during the US tour with the full band, as well as numerous soundchecks.  Can be seen being performed during the video "Meeting People is Easy'. Features Thom on keyboards and Jonny on Hammond and Glockenspiel.

• Follow Me Around (download/stream)
  Song played during soundchecks of OK Computer tour.  Has a tinge of country guitars, and doesn't really sound like anything Radiohead have done before.  Yet.  No falsetto from Thom either, which is a bit of a surprise.  Guitarists note: first radiohead song in dropped-D tuning!

• How To Disappear Completely and Never Be Found (download/stream)
  New song which has been played a few times during the '97 US/Canada tour. Over 7 minutes long, this song has unfortunately been described as 'disappointing' and 'indulgent', which is very un-radiohead really. It does however have some rather cool references to Radiohead's Glastonbury *distaster* gig, with 'blown speakers' and 'fireworks'.  Features Jonny on Hammond and phased slide guitar.

• I Promise (download/stream)
  Slow delicate ballad which was played a few times during 'The Bends' tour. Has apparently morphed a lot from it's original (and, let's face it, rather dull) form, and is more akin to Karma Police.  Or maybe not.  The recorded version sounds like Joy Division, according to Thom.  Which would mean: repetitive drums, cool basslines and out of tune vocals.  hmm.  Not expected to be released anytime soon.

• Life In A Glass House: (download/stream) excerpt
  New song that has been played at soundchecks and lucky journalists. Has been described by the radiohead-announce list as 'depressing and delicate' (hmm... like all radiohead songs). Select magazine described it as "a quite exquisite song that lies somewhere between 'Exit Music' and 'Climbing Up The Walls'." Can be seen during Meeting People Is Easy, and notably, starts off almost identically to Exit Music. The song contains the line "Once again, I'm in trouble with my only friend, she's smashing up the house again... living in a glass house." Nice.

• Lift
  (download/stream) - Song which was played frequently during one of the later Bends tours, and was allegedly once pencilled in as first single from OK Computer, but apparently was never recorded. Hasn't been heard of since then.  Shame. Delicious uplifting song, in which thom namechecks himself and getting stuck 'in the belly of a whale'.  yummy.   Lift as in elevator, not 'getting a lift/facelift'.  Apparently, Radiohead have lost all interest in this song, and so it is destined to be an unreleased gem.

• Motion Picture Soundtrack
  (download/stream) - another 'destined to be classic' radiohead song.  Has been played acoustically at numerous gigs and radio sessions during 'The Bends' and 'OK Computer' eras. A delicate ballad with 'sleeping pills, cheap sex and sad films.' The full band version should be quite different...

• The Thief: New song which was supposed to be debuted at the Amnesty International gig, and then was ditched at last minute, replaced by Street Spirit. 
  
  
• True Love Waits
  (download/stream) - played live during 'The Bends' tour, and has been played during soundchecks during the 'OK Computer' tour.  Quite nice, features lyrics about lollipops and crisps.   Might also be called 'Motigi Tempo,' Esperanto which translates to 'killing time', a lyric during the song. Ed mentioned in his diary that the band have been recording the song and it 'sounds like the start of something exciting now'. 
  
  
• The radiohead video, Meeting People Is Easy, has lots of new song previews, some of which have been reproduced here.  Nude, How To Disappear, Big Boots, Life In A Glass House, Follow Me Around are heard and seen throughout the video.  Recommended purchase for all radiohead fans.  Order it from www.waste.uk.com
