Chapter 2

Weeks went by as the girls prepared for the concert.
“Mom, Please? I want to at least buy a program.” Ashley said sitting down in the chair acrossed from her mom in the den as her mom read her book.
“Ashley, How much is a program?”
“I don’t know. About $20."
“Honey, I don’t know, how much do you have now?”
“I’ve been saving for 2 months, $80.”
“Can’t you use that?”
“Mom, I want to get some other things too. I mean, I need film, about $8.00 each, so say I get 3, I’ve spent $24.00. Now I want to get a poster $6.00, there’s $30. And a tee shirt, $20. That’s $50. And I have to have a program and glow stick. Programs are about $20, and glow sticks are $8. So $78. Right there. I’ll only have $2.00 left."
“Arg. Ashley. . . Well at least we know you can add.”
Ashley smiled.
“So can I?”
“Only if you work for it.”
“How, I already do all my jobs.”
“Wash the car, weed the garden.”
“Mom!”
“Go do it now, I’ll give you $10 for the car.”
“Fine.” Ashley said with a sigh and walked out side. She walked into the garage and took out the soap and a bucket with a sponge. As she took it all out to the car she picked up the hose and dragged it along with her. She turned on the hose and just as she was filling up the bucket her friend, Josh, drove by on his bike.
“Hey Ashley, What you doing?” He said parking his bike and taking the soap from her hands.
“Trying to make money. Mom said she’ll give me $10 if I wash the car.”
“Need any help?”
“Not really, but you can talk to me.”
“Alright.” He pushed his bike over to the tree and ran back over to the car as Ashley mixed the soap and water together.
“So, are you guys ready for the concert?” Josh asked turning off the water as Ashley started washing the car.
“Almost. Other then the money, we are completely ready. Got our out-fits all picked out, we’re going to hang out at the hotel they are staying at before the show. . . We’re gonna have fun.”
“Sounds like it. You’re bringing your MOE card, right?”
“Of corse. Are you?”
“Yeah, but I doubt they will pick me, I’m in the 18th row.”
“Don’t be too sure. They may not even pick me. I mean, what if they pick Sarah or something. Everything is a mixed chance. You never know.”
Josh grabbed the hose and started rinsing off the car.
“You’re right. But I have a gut feeling one of you will two will get picked.”
“Ha! That’s a laugh. I’ve been to 3 concerts in my life time, this will be my fourth. And I have yet to have gone back stage. Lets just hope you’re right.”
“I know I am.”
“Again, don’t make me laugh. The guy who’s pick-up line is, ‘My brother, Zac, wanted to know if you lost our phone number.’ Is telling me, he knows he’s right.”
“Hey, that pick up line actually works.”
“You may look a little, A LITTLE, like Taylor, but you so do not look like him. I feel sorry for the person who falls for that.”
“Ha! You did.”
“Excuse me!”
“You fell for it.”
“Oh am I that transparent? I need you, I want you, Oh baby, oh baby.” She said sarcastically and threw the sponge at him. He turned the hose on her and she ran down the drive way.
“Ok, ok, I give up.” She screamed and he turned the hose off. Walking back over to him he placed the hose down. She gave him a hug getting him all wet.
“Ahhh! Ashley!” He yelled as she gave him a kiss.
“Taylor! Awh!” She said with a laugh and he pushed her away.
“I’m not Taylor!”
“Ha, Ha! He’s not Taylor everyone! He admits it, he’s not Taylor.”
“Ashley, you’re odd.”
“Yep, you best be believin’.”
“Well, I better get going, I’ll see you at the concert Monday. You take care.”
“Yeah, you too. I’ll see yah.”

He got back on his bike and drove away as Ashley put the things away and went inside.
“Ashley! I said wash the car.” Her mom said walking into the kitchen to make dinner. Ashley smirked and marched off into her room to change.

At dinner everyone sat around the table. Ashley, Mom, Dad, and her older sister Jessica.
“Mom, when do I get the money?” Ashley asked taking a sip of her water.
“Money for what?” Jessica said sarcastically.
“For being so cute, unlike you. No, for washing the car. Mom said I would get $10 for washing the car.”
“Oh really?”
“Yes.”
“Well, Ashley, I’ll have to go down to the bank. So, tomorrow.” Her mom replied.
“Alright.”
“Oh, Ashley. That reminds me, can I barrow your pink shirt tomorrow?”
“Why?”
“Because I have a great job interview.”
“Sure, what is it for?”
“I might be working over at that new music store where they sell all those guitars and stuff.”
“Cool.”
“Isn’t that up in Salt Lake?” Her dad spoke up.
“Yeah.”
“Well, I hope you get it. I hear a lot of people, famous people, go there.” Her mom said.
“Yeah, I really wanna get that job. I mean, the famous people leave tips, big ones. To what I hear. And they pay $10 an hour.”
“Well, what are we doing tonight?” Ashley interrupted as she was finished with her meal.
“Well, I was thinking we could just stay home tonight.” He mom replied.
“Oh, ok. I’m going to play Nintendo in my room.” She said taking her plate and walking over to the sink and washing it.
“Ok.” Her dad replied and Ashley went to her room. She closed her door and sat down on the floor in front of her TV. It was Friday night so she could stay up as long as she wanted. She turned on the TV and took out her race car game. She started it and the phone rand. She quickly picked it up.
“Hello.”
“Madeline, here we go ‘round again.” the lyrics from Hanson’s song "Madeline" carried through the phone.
“Hi, Josh.” Ashley said as she played her game.
“How did you know it was me?”
“Lucky guess.”
Josh laughed.
“You wanna do something tonight?”
“I can’t. My mom wants us to stay home.”
“Oh. So what are you doing?”
“Nothing really. Just playing Nintendo. What about you?”
“Playing on my guitar.”
“Cool.”
“Hey, guess what.”
“What?”
“Sarah got her ears pierced.”
“How do you know?”
“She absent-mindedly called me instead of you so she told me and then said not to tell you. . . oops.”
“Ha, ha, ha!” She laughed and the beep for call waiting went off.
“I bet that’s her.” Josh laughed
“Yeah, hang on.”
She switched lines
“Hello”
“Ashley, guess what?” It was Sarah.
“What?”
“I got my ears pierced.”
“Cool.”
“Yeah, I got them today.”
“Cool.”
“So what’s up?”
“Just talking to you and Josh and playing nintendo.”
“Fun.”
“Yeah. Hey, I need to go, I’ll call you back tomorrow ok?”
“Alright. Bye.”
“Bye.”
She hung up and switched lines.
“Ok, I’m back.”
“Alright, was it her?”
“Yeah.”
“I told you.”
“Yep, she got them today.”
“Hey, Ashley?”
“Yeah.”
“I need to go, my sister needs the phone. I’ll call ya later, ok?”
“Alright.”
“Bye”
“Bye”
Ashley hung up and continued to play her game.

At 11:00 her mom opened her bedroom door.
“Ashley, time for bed.”
“Ok.” Her mom left and Ashley turned off her game. She stood up and took out her white cotton shorts with little daisy prints and white tee shirt and got dressed for bed. Then jumped into her soft worm bed. She shut off the lights and changed the channel to one of her favorite late night TV shows, “Married With Children”. After watching for 30 minutes, she quietly drifted off to sleep.
