FALLING OFF

The following songs have fallen off the VH1 Top Ten Countdown this week. Having taken their final bows, all their charting data will soon be sent to the archive. May they rest in peace.

TOP TEN COMMENTARY

Lifehouse stays on top, although Janet Jackson won't let go of the runner-up position. Watch for Uncle Kracker and Nelly Furtado, though... they've been itching to top the chart and may very well do so as early as next week. Train jumps to #6 in its second week on the chart, while Dido's eighteenth week sees a three-position plummet. There are two very interesting debuts this week -- Faith Hill leaps onto the chart with her new power ballad "There You'll Be", while Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya, and Pink make their debut with "Lady Marmalade", a video I thought would never make it on the countdown... although I must say that I'm very glad it finally did. Last week, my prediction was as follows:

  1. "Hanging By A Moment," Lifehouse
  2. "Follow Me," Uncle Kracker
  3. "Play," Jennifer Lopez
  4. "All For You," Janet Jackson
  5. "I'm Like A Bird," Nelly Furtado
  6. "Thank You," Dido
  7. "Drops Of Jupiter (Tell Me)," Train
  8. "South Side," Moby featuring Gwen Stefani
  9. "Mad Season," Matchbox Twenty
  10. "Drive," Incubus
Well, I was wrong... but pleasantly so. Sometimes I go with my heart and sometimes I go with my head, and last week I decided upon the latter. Luckily (in an odd sort of way), it was the former that prevailed, and two of my favorite current songs make the chart this week. Yay! Well, here's what could be in store for next week:
  1. "Hanging By A Moment," Lifehouse
  2. "Follow Me," Uncle Kracker
  3. "I'm Like A Bird," Nelly Furtado
  4. "All For You," Janet Jackson
  5. "Drops Of Jupiter (Tell Me)," Train
  6. "Play," Jennifer Lopez
  7. "Lady Marmalade," C. Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya, and Pink
  8. "There You'll Be," Faith Hill
  9. "South Side," Moby featuring Gwen Stefani
  10. "Thank You," Dido

AN INTERESTING NOTE

This really is an interesting week! The ladies of the Moulin Rouge, for whom I had given up hope, burst onto the chart, providing Christina Aguilera with a triumphant return and the other girls with a first video on the countdown (and a first video in regular rotation on VH1). Additionally, Faith Hill's debut is very quick, as it debuted on television just over a week ago. AND this is the most female-voiced songs (7) to be on the chart since I started recording. So, you go girls!
