Hope Allen's will:
"In the name of God Amen: the Third day of May in the Yeare of our Lord one Thousand Six hundred Seventy and Seven, I Hope Allen of Boston in New England Currier, being weake of body but of Sound & perfect memory Praised be almighty God for the Same Knowing the uncertainty of the present life and being desirous to Setell that outward Estate the Lord hath Lent me, I do make this my last will & Testament in manner following That is to Say ffirst and Principally I Commend my Soull into the hands of Almighty God my Creator, hoping to receive full pardon & remission of all my Sins and Salvation through the alone meritts of Jesus Christ my Redeemer and my body to the Earth to be buryed in Such decent manner as to my Executrix hereafter named shall be thought meete and Convenient, and as touching such worldly Estate as the Lord hath Lent me, my will and meaning is the Same Shall be Imployed and bestowed as hereafter & by this my will is Exprest
"Impr I do hereby revoke renounce and make void all wills by me formerly made and declare and appoint this my Las will & Testament.
"Item I will that all the debts that I justly owe to any manner of person or persons whatsoever shall be well & truly paid or ordained to be paid in convenient time after my decease by my Executrix hereafter named
"Item after my funerall charges are Sattisfied, and all my Just debts are paid I give and bequeath unto my Son Edward Allen to his heires and assignes forever, all my land in Casco bay Contayining foure hundred acres be the same more or lesse with the privilidges and appertenances thereunto belonging.
"Item my will is That my Two Negroes named Dego and Hager, shall Serve my wife Hannah Allen for the Tearme of foure yeares Next after my decease and that then they shall have their freedome they then paying unto my said wife the Summe of Thirty pounds in money, which said Summe I hereby give unto my said wife for the educating & bringing up of my Children that I now have or hereafter my have borne by her, and in Case my Said Negroes Shall not purchase their freedome, as aforesaid that then They shall be sold or otherwise Improved by my Said wife, for the uses abovementioned.
"Item I give and bequeath unto my said wife Hannah Allen, the use proffit and Improvement of the remainder of my Estate for and during the Tearme of foure Yeares next after my decease --
"Item My will is That at the end of the said foure yeares my said Estate Shall be divided and that then my siad wife, shall have one third part of the Remainder of my said Estate during the Tearme of her natturall Life and that then the other Two third parts thereof shall be Equally divided amongst my Children Namely, Edward Allen Jacob Allen Benjamin Allen Mary Allen Elizabeth Allen and Deborah Allen Also my will is that if my wife shall be delivered of a Living child with which she now goeth, that the Same shall have an Equall Share of my Estate with the rest of my children.
"Item my will is that after my said wifes Decease, the third part of the remainder of my Estate hereby bequeathed unto her during her life shall be Equally divided betwene my Children as well that Childe not yet borne as those before named
"Item my will is that in case any of my said Children shall dye before they come of age or be married that then that part of my Estate hereby bequeathed unto Such Childe or children shall be Equally divided betwene the Survivors of them
"Item I do hereby Nominate authorize Constitute & appointe my said wife Hannah Allen, the sole executrix of this my Las will & Testament
"Also I do hereby authorize and consitute my Loving friends Joseph How of sd Boston Cooper and William Gibson of sd Boston Cordwainer the overseers of this my Las will hereby desiring them to assist my said Executrix in the Execution of this my Last will & Testamt:
"Also my will is that in Case my Said wife shall marry againe within the space of foure yeares abovementioned that then my Estate shall be divided as abovesaid anythinge above Exprest to the contrary notwithstanding.
"Also I do hereby Impower my said wife with the advice of my Said overserrs at the end of the Said foure yeares or day of her marriage to Sell my house and Land that so there may be a more easy and Equall division of my said Estate.
"In Witnesse whereof I have hereunto sett my hand & Seale, the day and yeare first above written

"Signed Sealed and published by the abovenamed Hope Allen that what is Contained in these Two pages is his Last Will & Testament in the presence of us Charles Crosthwayt John Hayward Scr"
