INDEX
wager1032
Philemon worked as a tanner. He sailed to America in 1637 on the Mary Anne of Yarmouth as the servant of Benjamin Cooper of Brampton County, Suffolk. Became a freeman at Salem, Massachusetts in 1638 and purchased land in Southold, Long Island.
Many sources list Henry Dickerson and Barbara Cooper (perhaps related to Philemon's employer Benjamin Cooper) as his parents. Sometimes Henry Dickerson is even indicated as a son of Thomas Dickerson and Judith Carey, although most genealogists list William as one of their children, but not Henry. Chances are, this line has much conjecture, despite so much consensus, and Philemon's parents remain by and large unknown.
